On Sunday, January 31, the Lovejoy community came out to Legacy Bookstore in Plano in support of reading in the Lovejoy school district.  Close to 350 people showed up for this successful event.  Students from varying ages were found all around the bookstore reading from selected books.  Children were especially entranced when they saw a teacher, administrator or community member reading a book.  Beanbag chairs in the kids area were found hovering around the readers as others watched and listened to a reader with snack and refreshments.  Prizes were given away and a scavenger hunt kept others busy when not listening to a story.

A long line at the checkout counter could also be viewed as many used this opportunity to instigate interest in reading with their children.   A percentage of everything bought during the Lovejoy event was given to Pennies for Peace.  Lovejoy Legacy Readers is a new initiative for the district with the goal of increasing our kids' love of reading.  Join your friends and neighbors in a community wide book club.  The community read is Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson.  Be looking for details for book club meetings and talks.

About This Site

So much can be said in a name. In our case, our name says it all. First and foremost, this web site is a labor of love by a group of parents to celebrate the school district that is the heart of our community.

Lovejoy is a community of students, teachers, staff, parents, grandparents and residents of all ages. This is a web site by and for our community. There are so many good things happening in this community on a daily basis that we had to dedicate a whole web site to showcase them.

We hope this web site will be a source of inspiration, and we invite all of you to share the love that is Lovejoy!
