What an awesome day at the Lovejoy Chess Turkey Tournament on November 14!  In the chess world, it was one of the most popular tournaments:
112 Participants (Region III in January had 148 participants; Region II in February had 146 participants).
35 Schools
14 Teams
16 volunteers
21 trophies
6 frozen turkeys (4th place winner's prize)
5 hours of competition
4 Tournament Directors
1 National Chess Master
all at Sloan Creek Middle School, Lovejoy I. S. D.!
Here are the Lovejoy I. S. D. Results:
Most Difficult Section:  4th - 12th Grade, 800 +
1st Place:  Hunter Smith, 7th grader, SCMS
2nd Place:  Marcus Mao, 5th grader, Lovejoy Elem.
Intermediate Section:  4th - 12th Grade, 500 - U800
1st Place:  Jacob Dobson, 7th grader, SCMS
3rd Place:  Andrew Keefer, 6th grader, SCMS
Novice Section:  4th - 12th Grade, U500
3rd Place:  Stewart Cannon, 6th grader, SCMS
Primary K - 3rd Grade, U500
1st Place:  Andrew Cannon, 3rd grader, Hart Elem.
2nd Place:  Austin Keefer, 3rd grader, Puster Elem.
Not-to-be Rated Section:
1st Place:  Fayyaz Shaikh, 4th grader, Puster Elem.
TEAM TROPHIES (out of 14 teams from the Dallas/Ft. Worth area)
1st Place:  Sloan Creek Chess Club
2nd Place:  Lovejoy Elementary
3rd Place:  Puster Elementary
And the 4th place winner of U500 winning a frozen turkey was:
Ryan James, 7th grader at SCMS
