Good morning, Lovejoy Families, <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

How about this cooler weather?  It’s amazing how a few degrees can make such a difference in the  afternoon dismissal.   It was 70º this morning when I left Van Alstyne.  I am certainly looking forward to fall and those seasonal events and holidays!

Need Volunteer

Our 2011 Denim & Diamonds Chairman, Kelli Billingsley, is requesting a Lovejoy Elementary volunteer to chair our Masterpiece projects for the spring event.  This person would be responsible for getting volunteers for each grade level for Lovejoy Elementary and making sure the projects are created by the deadline.   Please contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Curriculum Night for Gate 10

The curriculum Night for Gate 10 has been schedule.  You will hear valuable information from the Gate 10 teachers on Monday, September 20th at Lovejoy Elementary in the "Gathering Spot"

1st - 3rd grade parents - 6:00 - 6:45

4th & 5th grade parents - 7:00 - 7:45

Lost and Found

We have our first lost item – a precious pink jacket.  With these cooler mornings, I would guess we’ll have more items very soon.  I encourage you to take a moment to write your child’s name, first and last, in your child’s items. We make every effort to return items once they are turned into the office.

Leopard Friday

Mark your calendar as Friday, September 24th, is this year’s Leopard Friday.  If you’ve not attended, you have missed quite an event.  I look forward to seeing many Lovejoy families, past and present, enjoying the pep rally, and love not having to prepare supper on a Friday night.  And of course, we top off the evening by watching the Lovejoy Leopards’ football team go up against the Abilene Wylie Bulldogs.  We are not including the flyer in today’s folder as there is a lot of information for you to sift through this evening.  Please be sure to look for the Leopard Friday information  in next week’s Thursday folder.

KidzScience

Today’s Thursday Folder has a yellow flyer advertising the after school science program, KidzScience.  Our students in grades 3 through 5 will begin on September 13th.  Children in kindergarten to second grade will meet on Wednesdays, beginning September 15th.  Sessions are 6 weeks each.

Abrakadoodle

Abrakadoodle, the after school art program, begins on September 8th.  Our students in grades 3, 4, and 5 will attend Wednesday sessions.  Students in grades kindergarten, first, and second will meet on Mondays beginning September 13th.

Read With the Leopard

Our “Read With the Leopard” date has been changed to Friday, October 1st.  We look forward to seeing our Lovejoy High School football players and cheerleaders welcoming and reading to our children!

To Set Up Parent Portal

Below are the procedures for setting up the Parent Portal, allowing you to view your child’s information.  Please note that the first letter of your child’s first and last name as well as the password, must be capitalized.

Lovejoy ISD Parent Portal gives parents and students access to real-time information including attendance, grades, and detailed assignment descriptions. PowerSchool now provides single sign-on access to the Lovejoy Parent Portal. With single sign-on access parents/guardians can now have their own individual parent/guardian account, including user name and password.

Please note the individual student account login information that you have used in the past will no longer work to login to the Parent Portal.

In order to login to the Parent Portal, you must follow these steps:

1. Open your Web browser to http://powerschool.lovejoyisd.net/. The Log In page appears.

2. Click Create Account. The Create Parent/Guardian Account page appears.

3. Enter the required information in the Create Parent/Guardian Account section.

In order to create an account, you must have the Access ID (firstname_lastname) and Password (first initial of the first name and first initial of the last name followed by the last four (4) digits of the student’s social security number) for at least one student enrolled in school. When creating the account, you will need the Access ID and password for each student you want to associate to your parent/guardian account.  For example:

Student:                                  John Doe

Social Security Number:         XXX-XX-1234

Access ID =                            John_Doe        (be sure to capitalize the first letter of the first and last name)

Password =                             JD1234           (be sure to capitalize both initials)

4. Use the student’s Access ID and Password in the Link Students to Account section.

If you need additional help, please refer to the Parent Portal User Guide: http://www.lovejoyisd.net/Uploads/34/misc/f191946.pdf

Once your account is created, you can manage your account information, link any and all students to your account (for whom you have parental and legal rights to), and set email and notifications preferences for each student linked to your account. If you've forgotten your account login information, you can retrieve them by using auto-recovery.

Social Skill

Our social skill for Monday the 30th to the 13th is “Greeting Others.”

When Greeting Others, you:

1.       Look at the person

2.      Use a pleasant voice

3.      Say “Hi” or “Hello”

We will be practicing this for the next two weeks and hope you’ll take a moment to review with your children.

PTA Membership

Those of you choosing to join the PTA for the 2010 – 2011 school year will want to check today’s  Thursday Folder for the yellow registration form.  This wasn’t included in the summer mail out, so be sure to thumb through the stack of papers for the form.

Kohl’s $500,000 Contest

Kohl’s has provided us with an easy way to earn money for our school.   They are having a contest to commemorate their 10th anniversary and are donating $500,000 to 20 schools who will receive the most votes through Facebook. If you are interested, follow this link:  http://apps.facebook.com/KohlsCares/search to the Kohl’s contest page. You then have to log into your Facebook account and you are given 20 votes of which 5 can be given to an individual school. There are only two weeks left in the contest. You could vote for 4 different schools (5 votes each). I hope you’ll support the Lovejoy Schools by taking a moment to cast votes within the next week and a half.

Upcoming Holiday and Early Release

Mark your calendars as we do have an upcoming 4 day work week.  Both students and staff have a holiday on Monday, September 6th.  Friday the 24th is an early release day with students leaving at 12:00.

Three Week Progress Report

We are scheduled to send out a three week report on Thursday the 16th of September.  Because the first three weeks of school are  more about getting to know the children, reviewing skills from the previous school year, practicing procedures, etc., we will be sending out a newsletter, sharing what our first three weeks looked like.  We felt this might be more meaningful and informative.  We invite any feedback once you’ve had the opportunity to see the change in the report.

Volunteering for the 2010-2011 School Year
