Dear Lovejoy Community:

Today is the last day of our Learning@Lovejoy summer professional development. Our staff has had access to some excellent training and I would say this is our best Learning@Lovejoy yet.

Parent Survey—3 Days Left

If you have not yet completed the parent survey, it is time to grade the school district on the job we did with your kids last school year. Please follow this link and complete the survey which concludes with two open ended response questions where you can give us direct and honest feedback about those things you particularly like and/or those things that you would like for us to improve or stop doing. The survey will be open from today through Sunday, August 8th. Please take a few minutes to let us know what you think. Survey available at: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/2010_Parent_Survey_Grading_the_District

Lovejoy High School Homecoming

Now that the Class of 2010 has walked the stage, LHS will hold its first homecoming this Fall.  Homecoming activities are scheduled for October 22, 2010 and the opponent for that football game is Frisco Lone Star. (Please note that this is a change from last May. The homecoming date was originally announced for October 8, but was changed because that date is a staff development day and a student holiday. It is difficult for the kids to engage in the homecoming activities when school is not in session.)

Another Unique Summer Success

This summer I have taken the opportunity to share some of our students’ success in non-school activities.  Here is a new one for me Unicycling—Julia Belk competed in the North American Unicycling Championship held in BerkeleyCalifornia from July 10th – 17th.   She earned the title of North American Champion by placing 1st in both the Street and the Long Jump events over all age groups.  Also, Julia placed 2nd in North America in Flatland and 3rd in Trials.  She plans to compete at the World Championships in Italy in 2012.

Additional Portables at SCMS

The district has moved 3 more portable buildings to the Sloan Creek campus which will give us a total of 8 classrooms located in portable structures. Our plan has always been to use portables at Sloan Creek to bridge the gap between having one middle school and two middle schools. From a financial perspective, it is important to not open a second campus until enrollment is sufficient to allow for the additional expenditures. However, we fully understand that we must open the second middle school before Sloan Creek becomes too crowded to impact the experience for our kids. We feel that we are absolutely on track to accomplish both goals—keep the number manageable for Sloan Creek and allow it to grow enough to support the opening of the second school. We are in the design phase for the new middle school and expect to turn dirt after the first of the year. We are currently working to resolve all infrastructure issues including wastewater disposal prior to completing the final design. I will keep you updated as options become available.

I am looking forward to the 2010-2011 school year. Our work is not very exciting until your sons and daughters return to the classrooms.

Respectfully,

Ted Moore

Superintendent

Lovejoy ISD

About This Site

So much can be said in a name. In our case, our name says it all. First and foremost, this web site is a labor of love by a group of parents to celebrate the school district that is the heart of our community.

Lovejoy is a community of students, teachers, staff, parents, grandparents and residents of all ages. This is a web site by and for our community. There are so many good things happening in this community on a daily basis that we had to dedicate a whole web site to showcase them.
