Dear Lovejoy Community:

As much as we needed rain, the return of the beautiful sunshine was certainly nice. As you know, the Leopard athletic program has had a good week. Our varsity cross country teams placed First (Girls) and Second (Boys) at last Saturday’s X-Country meet. On Tuesday, Leopard volleyball defeated the Allen Varsity in three games. Varsity football played on Thursday this week with a win over Frisco High School (49-29). I do not have the evidence yet, but I am optimistic that we also had some important victories in our classrooms as well. This year my grandchildren are in the sixth grade and Kindergarten and it is very interesting to listen to them talk about their school day. What happens to that Kindergarten innocence by the time they hit sixth grade?

Leopard Friday—September 24th

One of my favorite Lovejoy traditions is just around the corner. For the fourth consecutive year, the Lovejoy Council of PTA's is sponsoring our Leopard Friday events. In addition to the Friday night football game vs. Abilene Wylie (who knocked the Leopards out of the state semi-finals last year in the last 8 seconds of the game) there will be free activities for the entire family in the courtyard. There will also be a catered BBQ dinner in the gym. This event is a community service project for the Lovejoy Council of PTA’s and not a fundraiser for the PTA. Details about ticket sales are in the attached link: ,Leopard Friday

Federal Funding for Schools

You may have read some stories in the press this week about the U.S. Department of Education denying the State of Texas application for funding some teaching positions that are on the chopping block referred to in the media as Edujobs. The facts as I understand them is that Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas) tacked on an amendment to the bill targeted at Texas to ensure that these funds would be additional funding to the schools and not supplant state funding already in place. It is my understanding that this occurred because the legislature in the last biennium used the Federal stimulus dollars for education to supplant money already in the budget for public education. I would offer two points about this controversy: 1) regardless of the outcome there will be no additional federal money for Lovejoy ISD and 2) the political bickering appears to remain an obstacle to getting money to schools. If anyone has a better understanding of this than I do, please let me hear from you.

A school year is comprised of 6 six weeks grading periods. We are at the half-way mark of the first six weeks. There is urgency to ensure that learning is occurring and if we need to make some adjustments to better support your son and/or daughter, please let the principals know and feel free to include me on the communication as well. As always, you can email me at ted_moore@lovejoyisd,net, call my office at 469-742-8011, or call me on cell number at 972-415-8129.

Respectfully,

Ted Moore

Superintendent

So much can be said in a name. In our case, our name says it all. First and foremost, this web site is a labor of love by a group of parents to celebrate the school district that is the heart of our community.

Lovejoy is a community of students, teachers, staff, parents, grandparents and residents of all ages. This is a web site by and for our community. There are so many good things happening in this community on a daily basis that we had to dedicate a whole web site to showcase them.

We hope this web site will be a source of inspiration, and we invite all of you to share the love that is Lovejoy!
