Dear Lovejoy Community:
This note will be short, but I need to brag on some of our student accomplishments.
State Track Meet
Every Leopard athlete scored points at the State Meet as follows:
Katie Ruhala 1st place in both 3200m and 1600m
Jake Hervey 5th place in 3200m
Conner Day 6th place in 800m
Amber Bassett 3rd place in shot put
Kensey Berry 1st place in 300m hurdles
When all events were tallied, the LHS girls’ track team placed third in the State Meet. For full details on the meet, please read the attached narrative from Coach Christensen: State Track Meet Details
State Tennis Meet
The LHS tennis team sent 7 athletes to the State Meet last week:
Matt Ford—Singles
Price Smith and Drew Shafranek—Boys’ Doubles
Kenny Sweeney and Colby Seamster—Boys’ Doubles
Samantha Wendt and Taylor Johnson—Mixed Doubles
I went down and watched our kids play and you would have been very proud of their determined play and excellent sportsmanship. Matt Ford won the 2nd place medal in Boys’ Singles Class 3A.
Celebrate Class of 2010—Come Join Us
On Friday, May 21st at 3:00 pm in the Lovejoy Leopard Gym we will have our Senior Signing Day. This is a time of celebration where all of our Class of 2010 Seniors will announce to the entire school where they will be attending either school or career for the next year. Scholarship announcements will also be made. Dr. Goddard reports that we have a number of our seniors who have received full scholarships as well as many others who have been recruited to college and trade schools because of their talents. We would be honored to have you come out and celebrate as a Lovejoy Community with us.
LEOPARD BASEBALL—Playoff Run Continues The Lovejoy baseball team made school history by winning the Region II Area Championship. The Leopards defeated the New Boston Lions in a one game series by a score of 7-2. Lovejoy advances to the Regional Quarterfinals next week and will face, a familiar district foe, <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Princeton. At the start of the 3A baseball play-offs, there were over 184 teams competing for a State Championship, there are now 32 left.
We will play them in a 3 game series and the entire series will be at AllenHigh School.
Game 1 Thursday May 20th 7:00 pm Lovejoy will be home team
Game 2 Friday May 21st 7:00 pm Princeton will be home team
Game 3 (if needed) Saturday May 22nd 1:00 pm Flip for Home team
Softball Play-Offs—Lovejoy vs. Celina
Lovejoy and Celina are two of the top softball teams in the State of Texas. Celina has the reputation of bringing a large crowd for fan support so we are encouraging you to make the drive to McKinney and support our Lady Leopards.
The field has been determined and we will be playing at McKinney Boyd for the following Regional Semi-Final games:
Game 1: Thursday, May 20th @ 7:00 PM

Honoring Dr. Goddard
You are invited to join us to celebrate and honor Mike Goddard and his work in developing LovejoyHigh School. We have decided to join his celebration with a student performance that is an excellent example of the quality at LovejoyHigh School. The LHS Choral Department is presenting Pop Show 2010: Legacy on May 21, 2010, at 7:00 pm in the Auditorium. We thought a show focused on Legacy was a great match for Dr. Goddard’s mission in LISD. Please join us for the show at 7:00 pm or join us to celebrate Mike’s work at a reception immediately following in the student commons. If you are coming for the reception only, we recommend that you arrive at 9:00 pm. There is also a Thursday night presentation of this show because ticket sales have been brisk for Friday night. I am certain that the quality of the show will be second to none and I hope you will come out and recognize Mike for his dedication to the development of LHS.
Please accept my sincere wish for a wonderful week.
With Respect,
Ted Moore
Superintendent
