Tennis Success at State
This past Monday and Tuesday we took 7 kids to the state tennis tournament in Austin, that was the most kids from any school! The kids played awesome and represented Lovejoy with pride.
Price Smith and Drew Shafranek had a tough quarterfinal match losing to Boerne in 3 sets. Taylor Johnson and Samantha Wendt played hard against a very tough team from Spring Hill but came up a little short. Kenny Sweeney and Colby Seamster played extremely tough and won their quarterfinal match against a very good team from Wimberly. Then in the semi-finals they played amazing against Burkburnett and took them to 7-5 in the second set, they did not pull out the win but I was so proud of them, they played so well. Matt Ford rolled through his first two rounds and then faced a very tough player from Argyle in the finals...it was a re-match from the regional final which Matt won in 3 sets. This time they went to three sets again and Matt fought back after being down 1-5 in the third set. He came back to 4-5 and fought hard but the Argyle player fought extremely hard as well and ended up winning the third set 6-4. Final score of that match was 7-5, 4-6, 4-6. Please congratulate these players today on a awesome season!

Dual Credit for the 2010-2011 School Year
All students will be required to submit a transcript. They are looking to see if a student is exempt from the TSI (college placement test). A student can be exempt in three ways:
TAKS 11th grade scores: baseline 2200 in math, 2200 in ELA, and 3 in writing.
or
ACT: baseline 19 math, 19 English, and 23 composite
or
SAT: baseline 500 math, 500 verbal and 1070 combined (math and verbal)
If your student is waiting to be exempt based on TAKS scores, then do not send the transcript until the end of May. Have them bring in a signed transcript request to the counselor and as soon as the TAKS scores are in, we will give the transcripts to the Collin College representatives.
All other paperwork will be available by the end of May. We will keep you updated as the semester comes to a close. Collin College will be on the Lovejoy High School campus to enroll students on the morning of Friday, June 11th. This is only for students taking courses on the Lovejoy High School Campus. After this morning, registration takes place at Collin College starting on Friday, June 25th. Classes fill quickly, so be sure to have all paperwork in and ready and get in line early.
