Dear Parents and Guardians,

I want to thank everyone for all of the kind and thoughtful comments, notes and cards this past week. It is never easy to deal with the loss of a sibling, but your personal responses have meant a great deal to me and my family during this tough time.

This past Friday, some of you may have noticed that I was working one of the express concession stands at the varsity football game. While I enjoyed seeing so many familiar faces and serving you Dr. Peppers and Cokes, my main purpose was to help serve for the Cross Country booster club as a volunteer (my son Chris runs cross country).  As many of you know, the boosters of the various sports teams and fine arts organizations work the different events to support their groups.  Having served Friday night, it made me appreciate even more the many parents who put in the time and effort to make the experiences their children have the best they can be. Thanks for all that you do throughout the school year.

There are many important reminders noted below in the LHS News and Information section.  Here is a list of the items that are noted below.  Particularly note the information about going onto the LISD website (via the Parent Resources – Power School drop down) and complete the required Acknowledgments for the Student Handbooks, SCOC, and the AUP. You will also need to complete the FERPA questions and the General Waiver. Remember, parents have to have these completed for each student each year.

Lovejoy Parent Portal

Positive Proof Sign-In

Positive Proof Intercept is in place at the receptionist desk at Lovejoy High School. The system enhances school security by reading visitor drivers’ licenses, comparing information to a sex offender database, alerting campus administrators if a match is found, then (assuming no match was made) printing a visitor badge that includes a photo. The overall goal of this system is to increase the safety of our schools. Remember to bring in your driver’s license when you come in to check out your student.

Early Release

Friday the 24^th is an early release day with students being dismissed at 1:00 p.m. 

Leopard Friday 2010 is on September 24th! 

Leopard Friday is a community event held at the LHS courtyard prior to the varsity football game against Abilene Wylie.  The event is filled with fun and festivities for all ages.   

The Lovejoy ISD Council of PTA's is once again honored to host this FREE community event.  On Leopard Friday, the Courtyard at Lovejoy High School will be transformed into a showcase of our students, clubs and organizations. There will be something for everyone, regardless of age, and it is FREE. Lovejoy High School PTSA Directory Advertising 2010-2011

You are invited to advertise in the Lovejoy High School PTSA Directory.  The directory will be published in October and distributed to all PTSA members.  All advertising donations will cover the cost of publishing the directory.  Deadline to submit ads is September 17, 2010.  Thank you for your support.

Evening with the Majestics

The Majestics Drill Team and The Majestics Booster Club are hosting our annual "Evening with the Majestics". It will be on Oct. 22, Homecoming Night, for girls in grades K-5. Jr. Leopard Cheer Clinic

The Lovejoy High School Cheerleaders are hosting their popular Jr. Leopard Cheer Clinic for grades K through 6th Saturday, September 18th from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.  Come join the fun, receive a cheer t-shirt and enjoy the opportunity to cheer on the sidelines with the LHS Cheerleaders on Leopard Friday, September 24, during a special time at the Varsity football game at Lovejoy High School. Microsoft 2007 installed on all computers at LHS

This summer, our campus software programs have been updated and improved at Lovejoy High School.  One major change our staff and students will see is the transition to Microsoft Office 2007. 

We would like to provide you with a tool that will help with this transition.   Below is a link to a Free Compatibility Pack update offered from Microsoft.  This compatibility pack will allow you to view files that were created in Microsoft Office 2007 on a system that may be running a previous version.  For example, if you have Microsoft 2003 on your home computer, this compatibility pack will allow your son or daughter to access files at school in Microsoft 2007 and at home in Microsoft 2003.  We encourage you to take the time to install this free update to help alleviate any problems that may arise between systems (school and home) running separate versions of Microsoft Office.

To install the update, follow the link below.  Read the simple directions provided by Microsoft and click on the Download button.  When the pop up appears, select “Run."
