Hart Families and Friends,

Kindergarten Sneak Peek

Today we invited our newly enrolled 2010-2011 Kindergarten students to join us for a "Sneak Peek" into what it is like to be a Kindergarten student at Hart! We had a great turnout and I can tell you that we have an excellent group of kiddos headed our way. The kids joined us for Hart Beat and jumped right in with the dancing, cheering and fun! Even some of our new parents came up to the front to help lead the dance. A special thanks to our Kindergarten Team for coming up with such a fabulous idea!

Family Fun Night

Don't forget that Monday, May 24th, is Hart Family Fun Night from 6:00-8:00 PM at Hart. There will be free food, music an fun activities for all. The picture auction will take place in the 5th grade hall from 6:30-7:30. Remember, no money will be collected Monday night. All proceeds will go to printing more pictures to be hung in the halls of Hart next school year!

Celebration Student Accomplishments

Throughout the year we have recognized our students during morning announcements for their various accomplishments outside of school. Our students enjoy being featured on the announcements and love to see themselves on the big screen!! When something is good, we always want to find a way to keep it going and involve more students.

So...we are starting something new for next year and decided to try it our these last weeks of school. During announcements we shared with students that if they win a game, a chess tournament, any competition, have a recital, raise money for a special cause, earn a boy scout or girl scout badge, or whatever they feel is an accomplishment then we have a form in the library they need to complete. Then we schedule a time to video the students talking about their accomplishment and play it on the announcements.

Our students have produced 3 videos already and featured them on the announcements. WOW! It has been a huge success. One of our students, Hudson Wallace, is hosting the sports recognitions with his In the Huddle with Hudson Show. I know there are only 2 weeks left of school, but we are so excited about expanding this opportunity for our students next year, that wanted to go ahead and tell you about our plan. Look for information on how your child can become a part of this wonderful experience at the beginning of next school year!

Check out our New Videos

First Grade Life Cycle of a Chicken: Check out what the first grade students learned about chickens and watch the live feed from one of the chickens hatching from its egg (with the students cheering him on!).
and
Children's Book Week: See for yourself our Character Parade and our new song I'm a good Reader, sung by the entire school during Hart Beat last Friday!

After school today, some of our staff played kickball with our 4th graders who won the D&D auction item for kickball against the teachers. When I walked into the gym I knew we were in trouble. The kids were decked out in the mean green shirts with the words Teacher Exterminator on the front. What the students didn't know is that we have a secret weapon on the teacher team, Mrs. Simon. Did you know that she played in a real kickball league? Well, let me assure you that she did and she takes her kickball very seriously! :)

The teachers were leading when the Teacher Exterminators came up for their final at bat (I do not know the kickball lingo, so please forgive me!).  I decided to give the Teacher Exterminators a pep talk. I suggested the students target the teacher weaknesses and when I asked what they thought they were, the students responded with, "The teachers are old, tired and can't bend down!" Well they were right because after a two out rally, the Teacher Exterminators, took us down! Even with our secret weapon, Mrs. Simon, we couldn't hold them and the students won by 1!

You know it is a good day when you get to spend time with new kindergarten students, when you realize that your 5th grade students feel like they can take on the world of middle school and when you have an opportunity to share in a game of kickball with students, staff and parents at the end of the day! Today was a great day, and I am proud to be a part of such an amazing school family!

Make it a great weekend!

Kathy :)

Yearbooks

We have a few yearbooks available for purchase.  First come, first served.  Send $15 (checks made payable to Hart Elementary) to the Hart office.  Yearbooks will be available for pick-up after pre-orders have been distributed.

From The Nurse

If your child has medicine at school, please make sure your child has exactly enough medicine to finish the school year.  You are responsible for picking up any extra medicine as the school has a policy against sending medicines with students.

At the end of this school year, any remaining medicines, including inhalers, that have not been picked up will be thrown out.  The school cannot store these for you during the summer.

Please remember, if your child is going to continue being medicated at school during the 2010-2011 school year, you will need to have a new medication sheet filled out.

Thank you

About This Site

So much can be said in a name. In our case, our name says it all. First and foremost, this web site is a labor of love by a group of parents to celebrate the school district that is the heart of our community.

Lovejoy is a community of students, teachers, staff, parents, grandparents and residents of all ages. This is a web site by and for our community. There are so many good things happening in this community on a daily basis that we had to dedicate a whole web site to showcase them.

We hope this web site will be a source of inspiration, and we invite all of you to share the love that is Lovejoy!
