Hart Families and Friends,

It is hard to believe that we have completed another year at Hart Elementary! Friday was a great day full of fun festivities and my favorite part of the day was the 5th grade walk through the building. We purposely schedule it for the end of the day to include the entire Hart community: students, staff and parents. There is no more perfect sight than seeing the halls lined with everyone cheering, holding out their hands for a high fives, and making as much noise as possible in honor of our fifth grade students. Moms and dads took pictures, wiped away a few tears and shared their favorite memories of Hart. It was truly perfect!

Today all LISD staff attended graduation for the first graduating class of Lovejoy ISD. It was a proud moment for all and a beautifully orchestrated event. I only know a couple of the graduating seniors, but as I sat there I thought of our Hart students and how proud I will be to one day watch them walk across the stage. In the short term, I look forward to hearing about the accomplishments of our 5th grade class as they move to Sloan Creek Middle School. :)

I also look forward to seeing our fourth graders becoming the official leaders of our school. I look forward to our third graders making their mark as fourth graders and begin developing the leadership skills to become our future 5th grade leaders. I look forward to seeing our second graders move into the second half of their elementary experience. I look forward to seeing our first graders head back to the other side of the building where they began as kindergarten kiddos and realize that now they are the big kids on the block. I look forward to seeing our kindergarten students blossom into first graders after completing their inaugural year of public schooling. I look forward to the smiling faces of our new kindergarten students and they enter their first official day of school . Finally, I look forward to when our kiddos come back from summer break, ready for school, a few inches taller, and with lots of fun stories to share from their summer adventures! Have a fabulous summer vacation. :)

Looking forward to a great 2010-2011 school year,

Kathy :)

Staffing Update

Each year we make adjustments with staffing to meet the needs of enrollment, students and staff. We have made a few adjustments to teaching assignments for the upcoming year and I wanted to share the plans we have in place.

Cindy Duran is moving to 4th grade to teach ELAR/SS. Cindy has a strong background in reading and writing and has a passion for both of these subjects. She has wanted to be able to focus on these strengths and this year will be doing so as she joins the 4th grade team. Stacey Kerr will be joining the third grade team. Stacey has taught a self-contained class before and we will be able to utilize her reading and writing strengths in third grade.

Lisa Williams has served a part-time science/math teacher in 5th grade this year and we are very excited to bring her on in a full time capacity for the upcoming school year. Lisa is a teacher I would describe as a Science Expert and she will be joining our 5th grade team for next year. This year's fourth grade group has 5 sections and we will staff the fifth grade team with five teachers to support their numbers.

Additionally we have two staff members who will continue serving LISD is new roles. Our own cherished Mr. Preheim is moving to Sloan Creek Middle School as a 6th Grade Social Studies teacher. While we are sad to lose him for Hart, we are excited that our fifth grade students will be greeted with a familiar face as they move on to the middle school. For those of you who know Mr. Preheim, history is his love and geography is another one of his passions. The sixth grade social studies curriculum is world geography and a perfect match for Mr. Preheim's strengths. He will be filling an opening that became available at the middle school and will continue to touch the lives of our kiddos as they move to sixth grade.

Our own Barb Trudeau will also be making a change for the upcoming school year. She has served Hart these last two years as the Instructional Technology Specialist and previously as the computer teacher. Her new position is one that will serve our entire district. She will be moving to the Red Building and supporting LISD through the technology department. Barb loves technology and will be able to utilize her strengths to assist all campuses through her new position in the technology department.

We will be hiring an additional teacher for the third grade team next year because we have 5 sections of classes moving up to third grade from second.  We will also be hiring an Instructional Technology Specialist. As always we will keep you posted as we bring new staff members on board. We consider hiring one of the most important things that we do because of the significant impact teachers have on the success of our students! So for those of you who wonder what a principal does in the summer, this is one of the things on our list! :)

Spanish News

Summer is a great time to practice your Spanish.  See the end-of-year Spanish attachment for just a few ways that your child might enjoy practicing their Spanish acquisition.

Spanish Service Project Update

What a great way to end our school year, by giving back to our community.  Imagine the children's smiles when

The organization that Dr. Tom Brian and his family are part of Send Hope (www.send-hope.org) deliver lot's of great school supplies to the children in the Moskito Coast of Honduras. Thank you Hart students, parents and faculty for donating new backpacks, gently used backpacks and backpacks filled with lot's of books!  We also had a family donate 4 new CD players, what a joy all this will bring along with the boxes filled with crayons, scissors, construction paper and some VCR technical training tapes in English.  So thankful for being a part of Hart; who truly have a great big Heart! Have a great fun-filled summer.

With appreciation,

Veronica Muizers

About This Site

So much can be said in a name. In our case, our name says it all. First and foremost, this web site is a labor of love by a group of parents to celebrate the school district that is the heart of our community.

Lovejoy is a community of students, teachers, staff, parents, grandparents and residents of all ages. This is a web site by and for our community. There are so many good things happening in this community on a daily basis that we had to dedicate a whole web site to showcase them.

We hope this web site will be a source of inspiration, and we invite all of you to share the love that is Lovejoy!
