Good afternoon! It has been a wet and humid week! I hope the weekend dries out and the sun shines for us! I know the children want to get outside to play.

Next week is full of activity at Puster! We have our Bookfair, Celebrate Freedom Parade, 2nd grade Curriculum Night, and our Ice Cream Social. It is wonderful to have so many activities going on. It is a sign of the family atmosphere in Lovejoy. I hope we have the opportunity to see you next week at one of the events. Thank you to the many parents who have already attended Curriculum Night for their students.

Celebrate Freedom Week and Parade

Next week is “Celebrate Freedom Week”. Please mark your calendars and plan to join us for our second annual “Celebrate Freedom Week Parade”. We will be joined by our veteran friends from Heritage Ranch and Robert Puster will be here to lead our parade. Students and staff will be dressed in red, white, and blue. Weather permitting, the parade will begin at 9:15 on Wednesday, Sept. 15 in front of the school and end on the east side in the courtyard. If it rains, we will parade inside as we did last year! Hope to see you here!

Painting Puster Pink

On Nov. 5th, we will “Paint Puster Pink” in honor of Mrs. May, Mrs. Claborn and Mrs. Price who are walking in the Susan G. Komen 3 Day for the Cure. Students are invited to wear pink and walk during their specials time to support our teachers. Parents are welcome to wear pink and join their child in the walk at Puster. Please see the attached flyer if you would like to show your support through a donation.

Puster Dad’s Reading Club

The Dad’s Reading Club will be recruiting dads for this year. Watch for them at the Ice Cream Social and be ready to sign up. This is a wonderful way for dads to spend time with their kids. It is also a great way for the students to hear their dads model wonderful reading!

Fresh Fruit Friday

Our Student Nutrition Department would like to encourage students to bring a fresh fruit every Friday for their snack. Please help the Student Nutrition Department encourage healthy eating by providing your child with a fresh fruit snack EVERY Friday!

Bus Information – Please Read

Parents, in order to help us know how each child is getting home and to ensure everyone who is a bus rider has a seat, please follow these guidelines:

· If your child will ride his/her assigned bus, but will need to get off at a stop other than the assigned location, we must have a note from the parent. The child needs to bring the note to the office for approval by the principal at the start of the school day.

As per district policy:

School buses are operated to take only eligible students from home to school and back home again. Students are not allowed to ride home with a friend on the friend’s bus. Please make other arrangements for your child to go home with a friend. In the event of an emergency, you may contact the Transportation Department to receive prior approval.

Thank you for helping us get everyone home safely and to the correct location!

Ice Cream Social

The 16th of September is the Puster PTA’s annual ice cream social. Please plan to attend and enjoy an evening of fun with families and the Puster staff! The PTA meeting will begin at 6:15 and we will enjoy ice cream and toppings in the cafeteria at 6:30.

Upcoming Holiday and Early Release

Friday, Sept. 24 is an early release day with students leaving at 12:00. To allow all children plenty of time to enjoy their lunch, we will serve sack lunches in the cafeteria that day and have a modified lunch schedule. Classes will eat in their classrooms, outside, or in the cafeteria, depending on the weather.

Purchased sack lunches include: turkey or ham sandwich – wheat bread, an apple, baby carrots, animal and gold fish crackers, and milk or juice.

From The Counselor

On Wednesday our students enjoyed a presentation from a talented group of young men and women called Primary Focus. The program, entitled Start Dreamin', featured skits and songs to encourage character development. "Rockin' Responsibility," "Captain Caring,"  "Fairness Godmother,"  "Sergeant Citizenship," " Race Car Respect," and "Countin' on Trustworthiness" entertained the students with a positive message to support the Puster Pillars of Character. I even heard one third grader comment yesterday in the hall, "Captain Caring would not approve!" Ask your child about this wonderful program. Have a great weekend!
