Here are some details on our Senior Signing Day.
All of the community is welcome to attend. We will have a special visitor section for you in the Gymnasium.
When and Where is Senior Signing Day: Friday, MAY 21, 2010; 3:00 PM- 4:05 PM; LHS Main Gym
What is Senior Signing Day: Senior Signing Day will be a day of celebration where all of our seniors have the opportunity to unveil their selected college and accepted scholarships to LHS students and community. Each senior will be given the opportunity to say where they were accepted, scholarship dollars offered, and the college they have chosen to attend in the Fall of 2010.
What is the agenda for Senior Signing Day: Dr. Goddard will emcee the event. Each student will announce his or her own information, a representative from the outside organization may be present, for picture purposes, but due to time constraints Dr. Goddard will announce all scholarships related to LISD (booster clubs) or ones the student does not know they are receiving.
For example: I am Jeannie Walls. I was accepted at Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and the University of Georgia. I was offered 18,000 in scholarships plus received the Grayson Collin Electric Scholarship for a 1,000. I have decided to go to Texas Tech University. (Which at that time I would roll out my Texas Tech flag.)
What does the student need to do prior to Senior Signing Day: We are currently collecting data on the Class of 2010 please encourage your students to let me know where they have applied, admissions results and scholarship opportunities. I have attached the form and I will be visiting seniors again at the beginning of next week. Each senior will need to let me know if they will be participating in the event.
What does the student need for Senior Signing Day: Students need to know their information so they can say it quickly! We will be taking pictures so we ask that students dress nice and in appropriate attire. Ideally, students will have some object to 'unveil' their chosen path... a flag, a baseball cap, a T-shirt, a banner, a pennant, or a homemade sign.
Why are we having Senior Signing Day: The event has two functions.... first to honor the seniors but also to inspire and expose the 9-11 grade students to all the colleges and scholarship opportunities.
What if my student does not want to participate: This is truly a celebration and we hope every senior will participate but it is not a requirement. We understand not every student wants everyone to know their personal information. We also understand that due to society some students do not feel their plans for next year are as important as others. Our students have chosen a variety of options for the upcoming year. We have students going to Ivy league schools, junior colleges, flagship state universities, community colleges, private colleges, technical institutions, liberal arts colleges, mission trips, and fashion institutes while others will go into the workforce. All of these options are things to be proud of and we hope the students know they are just as important as the student next to them. Some students may choose to stand up and tell us they are going on a mission next year and head to the university in the coming years.
Let me know if you would like additional information and I hope you will be able to attend the event on May 21.
Have a great weekend,
Jeannie Walls
