Award winning author, Helen Ketteman, visited Hart Elementary on February 3rd.  Helen Ketteman has written many well loved children’s books such as:  Bubba the Cowboy Prince, The Three Little Gators, Armadillo Tattletale, Armadilly Chili, and many more.  Mrs. Ketteman presented four presentations to the students at Hart and even ate lunch with eight fourth and fifth grade students who’s names were selected from a drawing!  Students loved listening to Mrs. Ketteman’s storytelling as well as learning about her experience with writing books.  Many of the students were shocked to learn just how long it takes to write a book!  Mrs. Ketteman not only explained the writing process, but she shared some of the steps for the process of illustrating a book as well.  Special thanks to the Hart PTA for sponsoring this wonderful author visit!

The Hart Cafeteria was tranformed into a Sweetheart Ballroom on Friday night, February 5.  The girls of Hart Elementary were escorted by their dads while they enjoyed music into the night.  Decorated with shades of pink and chocolate brown, the room was elegant and enchanting as the DJ spun tunes for over 270 girls at Hart and their dads.  It was truly a memorable evening for all--especially the girls as they walked across the pink carpet into their magical night with Daddy.

Hart Student Council members lead the student body in raising money for the school’s global service project through Project Cupid. Students bought Valentines for $.25, completed them and returned them to Student Council members for delivery.

Student Council members added a piece of candy to each Valentine, divided the Valentines by classroom teacher, dressed up like Cupid, and delivered them to the classrooms and staff on Friday, February 19th before the Valentine parties began.

Hart Elementary raised $533.60! (Check out the video link at http://hes.lovejoyisd.net/MP.cfm?P=6318 to see how Student Council announced the amount collected.) The money will be donated to the Heifer Project to purchase a cow for a family in Africa. The cost of one cow (heifer) is $500.00. When the goal was reached, excitement filled the hallways at Hart Elementary. Students throughout the school were heard saying, “Now we can buy a cow! Now we can buy a cow!”

Created and developed by Kim Wright, this was a unique experience for the students at Hart on February 24. Not only did Kim Wright come into our physical education classes for the entire day and work with the students, but she also did some “on the job” training for Coach Dick as well.  It was like a two for one deal! Whip Its Jump Rope Program is designed to elevate, enhance and promote our students’ physical ability while providing them extracurricular opportunities. Our students had incredible fun while learning the basic fundamentals of rope jumping, fancy rope tricks and organizational skills!
