During the month of November, Hart Student Council members sold “I am thankful for you because---“ cards to students and staff and other members of the community. Those who purchased the cards had the opportunity to write why they were thankful for someone and return to the card to Student Council who, in turn, delivered the cards to the recipients on the day before Thanksgiving break. Through the sale of the cards, the students raised $834.00.
This semester, the Hart Student Council provided guidance in the idea of serving our community locally. (Next semester, the goal is to serve globally). With that goal is mind, the council chose to spend the money raised on helping children for the holidays through Allen Community Outreach. Fifth grade council members took time from their busy weekend to spend the $834 dollars buying clothes and toys for seven children!
The clothes and toys were displayed in Mrs. McCormick’s office before they were delivered to ACO so the staff and students could see how their giving made a difference for seven needy children.

On February 4th, the kindergartners at Hart Elementary had a great time celebrating the 100th day of school! The cafeteria was filled with math stations where the kids could practice concepts related to the number 100. Some stations included making a caterpillar with circles that counted by 10’s to 100, working on a 100-piece puzzle, practicing numeral writing, making pictures using 100 pattern blocks, reading books about the 100th day of school, drawing pictures of what they will look like when they are 100 years old and finding 10 groups of 10 pennies hidden in a tub of beans. They moved and grooved to a “100 Musical March” in which they stepped on circles that counted by 10’s to 100. When the music stopped, a number was read and the person standing on it won the round.

Hart Elementary hosted a Scholastic Book Fair before Thanksgiving in the library. The library was transformed into a book store decorated with the theme Destination Book Fair. The Book Fair chairperson, Denise Reyes, organized this successful event with wonderful PTA volunteers that helped to set up, run and take down the fair when it was over. Students enjoyed visiting the fair to purchase new books for their home libraries. Hart students are already looking forward to the next Book Fair in March. |

A group of second grade students from Hart Elementary hosted a Lemonade Stand on Friday, November 6th. Jacob Leirer, Grace Nguyen, Bailey Peck, Landry Webb and Cade Muizers presented the idea of hosting the Lemonade Stand to benefit “Hoops for Heart” to Kathy Foster, principal of Hart Elementary. “Hoops for Heart” helps people with heart disease through the American Heart Association. After their idea was approved, they hung posters to advertise the sale and sent notes home with all Hart students. On the day of the sale, they were joined by Lily McCutcheon, Hailey Atchley, Morgan Oden, Blake Rasmussen, and Jacob Lax. The kids worked hard to make the lemonade, deliver it to classrooms and sell it to parents after Hart Beat. They sold almost 200 cups of lemonade that day!!! The second grade students were excited to present $100 to Mrs. Foster after the sale. A huge thank you goes to all of the students, parents and teachers who supported the Lemonade Stand. |

Kindergarten students at Hart gave an adorable performance for family and friends the evening of November 5th. Students sang 6 Thanksgiving and performed a play called Hooray for Thanksgiving. The kiddos looked great in their costumes and made the audience smile as they shared what they were thankful for at the end of the program. The kindergarten students also celebrated their very first Art Show as their work was displayed for visitors to see. The students studied the work of Piet Mondrian (an artist also featured in Art to Go) and created their own composition using black horizontal and vertical lines of construction paper. Then the students painted the rectangles and squares with primary colors. Another piece was feature-based on what students learned about primary and secondary colors. The students designed their own mouse and placed it on a background of both primary and secondary colors. They were absolutely beautiful!
