Hart Families and Friends,

5th grade camp

Our 5th graders headed off to camp yesterday and we are hoping that the rain stays away! There is nothing better than the energy in the building the morning our kids leave for camp. I am not sure that many of them slept much the night before in anticipation of the fun they were about to have. Tonight I am heading up to visit the campers and join in the campfire festivities. I can't wait to hear first hand about the great time they are having! :)

PTA Reflections Contest

We are kicking off the PTA Reflections Contest and this year's theme is Beauty Is. This morning on the announcements I challenged our students to meet a goal of 300 entries for Hart. If you remember last year we had over 275 entries and many of our students received various levels of awards. Our participation and student success was so amazing that we had a special awards assembly for Reflections.  It was a standard setting year and we want to continue our tradition of success. Today you will receive a flyer explaining the entry process, so please encourage your child to participate. I will be featuring entries as they are turned in on the morning announcements to help students see examples of what they can create.

Destination Imagination

Another opportunity for our students to expand their learning experience is through Destination Imagination. We would love to have a team per grade level, but we need your help!!!!!!!! Parent coaches are needed to lead teams and I would ask that you consider this opportunity to provide our students a chance to participate in an academic competition that is an experience they will never forget. Please contact Jason James if you are interested in coaching a team!

Highlights from the Halls of Hart...

Our Kindergarten students observed what happens when you heat and cool different objects throughout the week. If you have a kindergarten student be sure to ask them what happens to soap when it is heated? It was pretty cool. Today they worked with eggs, and yes it is true when they tell you the eggs were green! It was a great connection to the book, Green Eggs and Ham. :)

Hats off to our second grade students who were showing off what they have learned about regrouping in problem solving situations. I had a line of kiddos today showing off their thinking on how they solved the problems. I was very impressed! I was also impressed with how the students were able to identify elements of a story such as: Characters, Setting, Problem, Events, Solution and Ending!

4th grade students are collecting data all around the building. They have come up with some interesting questions to ask. My favorite question is, how many times do you ignore your alarm clock before you get up in the morning? For those who do not have an alarm clock, they asked how many times they ignore their mom. I think the parents should get to respond and then they can compare the data! :)

It has truly been a great week at Hart! Have a wonderful weekend and remember that next week is a short week: no school on Friday, October 9th, followed by Columbus Day Holiday on Monday, October 12th!

Kathy :)

District-Wide Announcements

DI Awareness & Kickoff Meeting - October 6th - LHS Lecture Hall

Destination ImagiNation® is not really a program, it’s a process. Team members engage in creativity, critical thinking, Creative Problem Solving, and teamwork, with DI Challenges, otherwise known as a great practice drill for the challenges of real life! Participants will develop life-long skills that carry over into everyday life – but most of all, they will have fun, discover talents they never knew they had, become friends with kids they might not have ever met, and reap the rewards of teamwork and friendship as they grow and learn.  To learn more visit www.idodi.org.

You and your children are invited to attend the Lovejoy ISD DI Awareness & Kickoff Meeting Tuesday, October 6th from 5:00-6:30pm in the LHS Lecture Hall.

The LD Zone - A Play About Bright Students Who Learn Differently - October 8, 2009 - LHS Auditorium - 7:00pm

This entertaining and educational play is based on a production created by the Dallas Fine Arts Chamber Players in 1996.  Their educational troupe, Dream Collectors, created the play to promote awareness of dyslexia, a reading disorder that affects one out of seven people, and to encourage early diagnosis and intervention.  For more information, please see the attached flyer.

Blackout and Burgers with the Band - October 16, 2009

Show your support for the LHS football players and marching band (see attached flyer for all information)

Dads Club Basketball

The Lovejoy ISD dads meet every Wednesday (closed holidays) at Sloan Creek Middle School for Basketball.  The gym hours are from 7- 9 pm.  This activity is part of the Lovejoy ISD Dads Club and is restricted by the district to Lovejoy ISD taxpayers and staff, so please no ringers, college buddies, co-workers, etc. (unless they live or work in the districts).  The general idea is for the dads to get to know each other and get a little exercise at the same time.  If you know other dads that want to play, please have them contact Jason Vaughn at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to be added to the distribution list.

We play at Sloan Creek Middle School which is located on the east side of Country Club Road north of Stacy Road.  The Gym's are located in the back northeast corner of the school.   Enter around the back of the school through the glass double doors by the tennis courts.  The doors will be unlocked and we will be in one of the gyms and then just follow the sounds of bones creaking and heavy breathing to the gym.

About This Site

So much can be said in a name. In our case, our name says it all. First and foremost, this web site is a labor of love by a group of parents to celebrate the school district that is the heart of our community.

Lovejoy is a community of students, teachers, staff, parents, grandparents and residents of all ages. This is a web site by and for our community. There are so many good things happening in this community on a daily basis that we had to dedicate a whole web site to showcase them.

We hope this web site will be a source of inspiration, and we invite all of you to share the love that is Lovejoy!
