Hart Families and Friends,

Kindergarten Performance and Art Show

Congratulations to our Kindergarten students for the adorable performance they shared with us last night. The kiddos looked great in their costumes and made all of us smile as they shared what they were thankful for at the end of the program. Our kindergarten students also celebrated their very first Art Show as their work was displayed for visitors to see. The students studied the work of Piet Mondrian (an artist also featured in Art to Go) and created their own composition using black horizontal and vertical lines of construction paper. Then the students painted the rectangles and squares with primary colors. Another piece was feature-based on what students learned about primary and secondary colors. The students designed their own mouse and placed it on a background of both primary and secondary colors. They were absolutely beautiful!

Reflections Update

It has been overwhelming to see the talents of our students represented in the works they have created for this year's Reflection Contest. I have had the privilege of showing each entry on the announcements and have been truly inspired by what our students have created. I can't wait to see the results from the contest because the quality of the work our students have submitted is above anything I have ever seen before. Once I have a final tally, I will share how many entries we have received. It is going to be hard to wait to find out the results from the judging, but I will do my best!

Student Council is Serving our Community

Please take time to read the attachment regarding the "Thankful Notes" our student council will begin selling starting Monday. This is a great opportunity to share appreciations with friends, teachers and even family members, while contributing to an important cause. With the money raised from the "Thankful Notes" sales, our school will be able to sponsor gifts for children during the holidays. If every student were to purchase a note for $1.00, we would be able to help 6 children for the holidays. Thank you for considering this opportunity to help others by sharing notes of thanksgiving.

This has been a fun week of learning for our students; here are some highlights...

3rd grade students learned about using data bases for their animal research project. You have to ask your third grader to explain the difference between trash and treasure when researching information! It is a great strategy.

5th grade students worked on a science lab to see what type of items were conductors of heat and electricity! If your child comes home and asks for a battery, Christmas lights, a paper clip and tape, watch out because they will be able to show you a thing or two!

2nd grade students have their own creations hanging on the walls to demonstrate how to create a symmetrical object! There are some interesting shapes and creatures on display for you to see!

4th grade math students were rocking this week as they worked on what to do with a remainder when they are dividing. There are actually three different options, so ask your student and find out what they learned! Some of the students tried to divide a person into a fraction and decided that would not work, on the other hand, it did work with a cracker and a cookie! The students know what I am talking about, just ask them!

Sometimes our children come home and it is not always easy to get them to talk about what they are learning, I hope the few things I share each week can help give parents an edge in that conversation! Have a wonderful weekend and we will see you on Monday.

Kathy :)

District-Wide Announcements

Parent Training

The LISD Special Education Department will host the first, in a series, of trainings for parents of students with a disability. The topic for this training is the Transition Process.  Transition includes, but is more than, the movement from campus to campus.  Transition is an outcome oriented process to address the student's post secondary needs.  Come and learn about the intent of the law and how you can be an effective advocate for your child.  The training will be held in the Red Building on November 12th at 1:00 p.m. and then repeated at 7:00 p.m.  See attached flyer for information.

Gate 10 Deadline

The deadline for Gate 10 referrals for 2nd semester placement is November 13, 2009 at 4:00 p.m.  Forms are available on the district website under Special Programs, Gifted & Talented.

Referrals may be turned in at each school to the attention of:

Lovejoy High School - Jan DeLisle

Sloan Creek Middle School - Jan DeLisle

Hart Elementary School - Beth Ricci

Puster Elementary School - Wendy Craft

Lovejoy Elementary School - Sandra Dennis

Special Population Parent Group

Now that the 2009-2010 year is underway, we wanted to inform parents of the opportunities to be involved in our parent community group.  A priority of the district is to continue communication between the district and parents.

Please see the attached flyer for the upcoming events for the Special Population Parent Group - SPECIAL - Special People Effecting Caring Interactions And Leadership.

Leopard Lacrosse Parent Meeting

Join us on Monday, November 9th @ 7 pm in the SCAMS Library.  The meeting is for all parents with kids interested in playing for our club team.  You will learn more about our program, membership, meet the board and our Head Coach, David Wang.  Also, spirit wear will be on sale. Teams are now forming for 3rd/4th grade boys, 5th/6th grade, and 7th/8th grade.

Leopard Lacrosse ‘Come Out and Try It’ Clinic

Leopard Lacrosse is holding a ‘Come Out and Try It’ Clinic on Saturday, November 14th from 12 -2 at the SCAMS field.  This event is for all interested players.  You will see a demonstration of the game and get to try it by participating in different drills.  Head Coach David Wang will lead the clinic.

Visit www.leopardlacrosse.net for more club info.

Fine Arts Festival

The first Lovejoy Fine Arts Festival will start at noon on Saturday December 12th at Lovejoy High School.  Admission is free. The festival will showcase the artistic talents of Lovejoy ISD students in the fine arts departments.  Set aside some time on your busy calendars to attend.  Come and go as you please. Three stages will host various performances by Lovejoy fine arts students in grades 5-12.  Just a sampling of performers are: elementary schools' honor choirs, middle school pop choir,  LHS choir, LHS jazz band, The Majestics Dance Team, studio dance classes, orchestra, theater, guitar club performers, ensembles, and student bands. Community art booths, art student booths, and holiday food vendors will also be involved. Plus kids' art stations and a photo opportunity  with the big guy in the red suit.  Your eyes, ears, and taste buds are in for a treat!

The festival will last from noon to 6 p.m.. But the climatic LHS choir performance will close out the evening after 6 p.m. on the main auditorium stage.

We encourage you to bring at least two canned goods for Allen Community Outreach. Another community event, held at the same time, is the art department's Empty Bowls project.  Persons will be able to buy a bowl, hand-made by an art student in grades K-12. The funds from the project will be given to the Samaritan Inn.

Lovejoy Fine Arts Festival is planned by a committee representing the five different LHS fine arts booster clubs: band, orchestra, choir, theater, and Majestics.

Dads Club Basketball

The Lovejoy ISD dads meet every Wednesday (closed holidays) at Sloan Creek Middle School for Basketball.  The gym hours are from 7- 9 pm.  This activity is part of the Lovejoy ISD Dads Club and is restricted by the district to Lovejoy ISD taxpayers and staff, so please no ringers, college buddies, co-workers, etc. (unless they live or work in the districts).  The general idea is for the dads to get to know each other and get a little exercise at the same time.  If you know other dads that want to play, please have them contact Jason Vaughn at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it  to be added to the distribution list.

We play at Sloan Creek Middle School which is located on the east side of Country Club Road north of Stacy Road.  The Gym's are located in the back northeast corner of the school.   Enter around the back of the school through the glass double doors by the tennis courts.  The doors will be unlocked and we will be in one of the gyms and then just follow the sounds of bones creaking and heavy breathing to the gym.
