LES Field Day PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 21 May 2010 16:52

What a great time of year for Field Day! Our Lovejoy Leopards enjoyed traveling to the Lovejoy High School stadium for two days of running, dancing and games! Part of the goal for field day was for our students to raise money to benefit diabetes research. This goes right along with our graduate profile of serving and giving back to our community. During the K-2 Field day the students spelled out the word Lovejoy on the field. During the 3-5 Field day the students spelled out the word Leopards. Using those photos, Mr. Hebert Photo shopped them together to make this amazing picture! Thank you to Coach Tidwell and Mr. and Mrs. Hebert for all of your hard work making Field Day so much fun!

Hart Kindergartners "Dig" into Science with Plants PDF Print E-mail

Submitted by Laura Nguyen

The kindergartners at Hart Elementary spent the last month learning about plants in Science.  They kept plant journals to record all of their observations and experiments.  They investigated different types of soil, observed and sorted seeds, used the digital microscope to observe the parts of a lima bean, watched lima beans grow and labeled the parts of a plant.  The students also planted "table gardens".  Each table was responsible for planting various seeds, watering the seeds each day, putting the gardens in the sun in the morning and bringing them back inside in the afternoon.  The kids were so excited when their "table gardens" started to sprout!  They measured the growth of their plants, observed the leaves and compared the leaf shapes.

Hart Elementary First Graders “Egg-Cited” about Chicks! PDF Print E-mail
Written by Brittany Bright

First graders at Hart have been Egg-cited about Chicks!  Students first received their eggs 4 weeks ago.  The students were able to observe the eggs while in the incubator, and students were able to “Candle” the eggs to determine if the eggs were winners, quitters, or yolkers.  Our favorite time came this past week as students were able to witness the hatching of the chicks by using the webcam.  We cheered and celebrated as 20 eggs ultimately hatched.  Students shared their learning as they blogged their observations, journaled,  graphed, and ultimately completed a lap book consisting of diagrams, writing, and photographs.

Hart Elementary Hosts Mother’s Day Tea PDF Print E-mail

First Grade students at Hart Elementary honored their mothers this month with a Mother’s Day Tea.  The mothers were first put to the test as they had to identify their portrait as drawn by their child.  Then it was time for the tissues as students performed several songs for their moms.  Moms were able to view a Photo Story presentation in which the children recorded their own voices telling what was important about their moms.  To finish the day, students served their moms cookies and lemonade.  What a special memory for Hart first graders and their moms!

Honoring Dr. Goddard

You are invited to join us to celebrate and honor Mike Goddard and his work in developing LovejoyHigh School. We have decided to join his celebration with a student performance that is an excellent example of the quality at LovejoyHigh School. The LHS Choral Department is presenting Pop Show 2010: Legacy on May 21, 2010, at 7:00 pm in the Auditorium. We thought a show focused on Legacy was a great match for Dr. Goddard’s mission in LISD. Please join us for the show at 7:00 pm or join us to celebrate Mike’s work at a reception immediately following in the student commons. If you are coming for the reception only, we recommend that you arrive at 9:00 pm. There is also a Thursday night presentation of this show because ticket sales have been brisk for Friday night. I am certain that the quality of the show will be second to none and I hope you will come out and recognize Mike for his dedication to the development of LHS.

Please accept my sincere wish for a wonderful week.

With Respect,

Ted Moore

Superintendent
