Lovejoy Elementary students are getting into character as they finished up their study of the American Revolution.  On Dec 3rd, the McKinney Chapter Sons of the American Revolution came to Lovejoy in authentic colonial costumes, featuring various militia and Army clothing.  In addition to these amazing costumes, students were able to examine actual artifacts used during the war, view many reproduction military flags and their symbolic meanings, as well as learn about the role these different militia would have played in the war effort.  Lovejoy wants to send out a special thank you to the Sons of the American Revolution for bringing history to life for our students!!

Kare N for Cancer at Lovejoy Elementary PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 15 December 2010 14:44

For the 2nd year in a row, Lovejoy Elementary participated in the Kare N for Cancer service project. This wonderful group provides Christmas trees with all of the trimmings for local cancer patients. They realize that when you are going through cancer treatments and your energy is needed to get well, you may not feel like putting up a tree and decorating for the season. That is where Lovejoy was able to help! The school collected trees, ornaments, tree skirts and money to give to these wonderful people who are going through the battle of fighting cancer. What a wonderful feeling to know that we have helped to brighten someone’s holiday! If you would like to know more about this organization, here is the link to their website http://kare-nforcancer.com/default.aspx. You’ll be glad you did!

Lovejoy Uses Glogster PDF Print E-mail

Looking for a new way to create a presentation? Look no further than Glogster.edu! A glog is basically an interactive bulletin board on which students can create a presentation. They can add text boxes, images, clip art, maps and backgrounds to show what they have learned while doing research. Lovejoy fourth graders have recently completed a research unit on Texas Indians. After researching online and in books, they created glogs on specific tribes that lived in Texas. They did an amazing job researching, learning and then sharing the information with others.

Hart Fourth Grade Writing Academy: The Place to Be! PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 14 December 2010 16:53

Fifty Hart fourth graders stayed after school on five Tuesdays to participate in the school's first ever writing academy.  The students filmed and then wrote about embarrassing moments, participated in writing roulette where students rotated stories and added to them, and wrote holiday stories using a grab bag of holiday themed story elements. The writers used skills they'd been learning in class while writing their own stories and when giving feedback to their friends.  Terrific writing, boys and girls!  Academy:  The Place to Be!

The 2nd graders at Hart Elementary have been busy travelers this week! They’ve “visited” France, Sweden, Mexico and Germany as part of a Christmas Around the World unit. Each “trip” involves learning about holiday traditions, foods, activities and customs unique to that country. Students kept up with their travels by creating and carrying a passport with them! They received a stamp from each country as they left and now have a full passport!

About This Site

So much can be said in a name. In our case, our name says it all. First and foremost, this web site is a labor of love by a group of parents to celebrate the school district that is the heart of our community.

Lovejoy is a community of students, teachers, staff, parents, grandparents and residents of all ages. This is a web site by and for our community. There are so many good things happening in this community on a daily basis that we had to dedicate a whole web site to showcase them.

We hope this web site will be a source of inspiration, and we invite all of you to share the love that is Lovejoy!
