Treasures from the Earth

Diamonds, Gold and Dinos

dillhearddiamond Check out a new “sparkling” exhibit in less than two weeks! Beginning April 3, 2009 the Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary will present Treasures from the Earth, a new exhibit featuring an exotic collection of diamonds, gems, precious metals, rare minerals, pearls and fossils. Many of these specimens are on loan from exclusive collectors and some have never been exhibited in public, making the Heard’s newly renovated exhibit space the perfect place for their debut.

Treasures from the Earth includes a vault where the public will have the opportunity to view some of the largest uncut diamonds (up to ten carats) ever found in the United States from the Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas.  In addition, the vault features dendritic gold, large birthstones and a silver ingot recovered from the Spanish galleon, Nuestra Señora de Atocha, which sunk off the Florida Keys in 1622.

Spring 2009 Book Fair 006  Lovejoy Elementary has rolled out the red carpet for our Spring Book Fair!  Students have had a wonderful time purchasing many new books as well as journals, posters, pens and cookbooks.  Our leopards have also collected loose coins and bills that will benefit children in need.  Scholastic matches the monetary donations schools generate, with a donation of up to one million books to three national non-profit organizations dedicated to helping kids and families in need: Kids in Distressed Situations, Inc., National Center for Family Literacy, and the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation.

Puster Students Donate PDF Print E-mail

Puster Elementary students LOVE their school mascot, Becca.  Becca is a yellow lab that was bought at our Denim and Diamonds Gala and Auction last year.  She was donated to our principal, Janet Anders, who faithfully brings Becca to brighten the spirits of all of our students...and faculty.

March 11, 2009 was Becca\'s first birthday.  In honor of this glorious occasion, Mrs. Anders let all of the students know that Becca had everything she would ever need and more, however, Becca\'s friends at the SPCA were in need.  Students were asked instead of buying Becca a birthday gift, if they would donate to the SPCA.

Puster Elementary students brought $230.00 and 640 pounds of dog and cat food.  Needless to say the SPCA of McKinney was tremendously happy to receive the generous donation from the students at Puster.

Thanks to everyone who participated and gave to help Becca\'s friends at the SPCA.
