red r week 071

Lovejoy Elementary recently participated in our annual Red Ribbon Week. This week is recognized each year as a week to learn about the dangers of drugs and how to live a drug free life. Our leopards were challenged each day to participate in fun activities focused on drug free living. Along with the fun and learning, Lovejoy held a food drive to benefit the Allen Community Outreach program that assists many needy families. The highlight of the week was the Fall Family Festival that so many families attended. There were bounce houses, a hayride, an aqua blaster that squirted water on teachers, the book fair, carnival games and a scarecrow auction! The evening was so much fun! Thank you to our awesome PTA for hosting such a great evening and for supporting our week of learning how to be drug free!

Good afternoon,

A special thanks to you that helped out with our Bike Rodeo.  It was a huge success for the children.  Also, a special thanks to Dustin Barrientes with the Plano Cycle and Fitness Shop.  He spent the day checking bikes and making minor repairs for our Leopards.  Also, Officer Erter from the Allen Police Department, Community Relations, did an awesome job when working with our children throughout the day.

Parents and the Transition Process

The LISD Special Education Department will host the first, in a series, of trainings for parents of students with a disability. The topic for this training is the Transition Process.  Transition includes, but is more than, the movement from campus to campus.  Transition is an outcome oriented process to address the student's post secondary needs.  Come and learn about the intent of the law and how you can be an effective advocate for your child.  The training will be held in the Red Building on November 12 at 1:00 p.m. and then repeated at 7:00 p.m.  If you have questions, please contact Amy Burks at 469.742.8062

bradsher 006What is a grid?  How do you create a grid?  Mrs. Bradsher's second graders had fun exploring how to create a life size grid through cooperative groups.  The students also explored arrays, area and perimeter through this fun math activity.  Making Math Meaningful through color and novelty is a great way to make the knew knowledge "stick."

Make Good Choices! This was the message brought to Lovejoy Elementary by the performing group Primary Focus. It is important for all children to make good choices during their lives and through song and dance, this group of young people showed our students that the choice is theirs. The six pillars of good character were each addressed during the presentation. Responsibility, Caring, Trustworthiness, Respect, Fairness and Citizenship are the six characteristics that each of us should strive to practice. Here at Lovejoy Elementary, we care about educating our students academically, but we also want to teach good character to their hearts. Thank you to Mrs. Ruggeri for bringing this wonderful group of presenters to our school!
