The LHS Fine Arts Department and a cast of over sixty Lovejoy students present the beloved musical, THE MUSIC MAN, with three performances on January 26, 27 and 28 at the Lovejoy High School Auditorium. The year is 1912 and the story follows fast-talking traveling salesman Harold Hill, played by senior, Drew Shafranek, as he cons the people of River City, Iowa into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band he vows to organize – despite the fact he doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef. Helping Hill to pull off this enormous scheme, is his friend, Marcellus Washburn, who is played by junior, Alex Adkins. Hill’s plans to skip town with the cash are unexpectedly foiled when he falls for Marian the town librarian, played by senior, Tessa Haas. The show also features Michael King, Sam McCorcle, Bo Graham, and Garrett Northcutt as the iconic barbershop quartet. Included in the cast will be many elementary and middle school students from LISD portraying the children’s roles. The Music Man will be performed to expected sell-out crowds on Thursday, January 26; Friday, January 27; and Saturday, January 28 at the Lovejoy High School Auditorium at 2350 Estates Parkway in Lucas. The show will begin at 7 PM with doors opening at 6:30 PM. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors, and may be purchased at the LHS school store or online at: www.Lovejoytheatre.org. |

LHS THEATRE PRESENTS THE PLAY: THE ANT AND THE GRASSHOPPER AND ANNOUNCES CONTEST WINNERS The Lovejoy High School Theatre Department kicks off its exciting 2011-12 season this month with a play for all ages, The Ant and the Grasshopper. Two performances of the classic Aesop fable will run on Saturday, September 24 at 2 PM and 6PM at the LHS auditorium. The department also hosted a coloring contest for the elementary schools at Hart, Lovejoy and Puster. Pictured here from left to right are Hart’s winners: Sanjana Jacob, Anyana Dalley and Salena Jacob pictured with LHS high school student Drew Shafranek who plays the Ant. Other winners from Lovejoy Elementary are: Hannah Wyrick, Elle Foster and Miyah Johnson; and from Puster: Allison Dwiggins, Avery Ashley and Kaleigh Mack. The winners all received two passes to one of the performances. The Ant and The Grasshopper tells the story of a serious and hard-working Ant who isn’t expecting a new neighbor to drop in to his newly dug hole—the irresponsible, yet fun-loving Grasshopper! Having to prepare for a long, hard winter, the Ant refuses to participate in play; and on top of that, does not believe in having fun. Soon enough, winter comes, and the foodless Grasshopper and the friendless Ant must work together to survive. Providing a moral lesson about hard work and foresight, the new friends discover that there is more to life than they thought. The show features senior favorites such as: Drew Shafranek as the Ant, Tessa Haas as the Grasshopper, Kensey Berry as the Spider and Maggie Wright as the Ant Queen. Junior Alex Adkins will portray the Ladybug, and freshman Katie Self will make her high school debut as the Butterfly. Ticket prices for reserved seating are $5 for students/seniors and $7 for adults and are available online at Lovejoytheatre.org and at the LHS school store. For more information, please contact Catherine Shafranek at 214-212-3277 or
