Lovejoy Elementary fourth graders had the opportunity to perform Tuesday, February 2nd during halftime of a girl’s varsity basketball game at the Lovejoy High School Gymnasium. The students worked together to create their routine and spent many class periods practicing for their performance. Our fourth graders represented Lovejoy Elementary well by showing school spirit and cheering for our Lady Leopards. |

Well-known children’s author Helen Ketteman visited Lovejoy Elementary School on February 4 to entertain us with her stories and share information about the writing process. Mrs. Ketteman has written 20 books including Bubba the Cowboy Prince, Armadilly Chili and The Three Little Gators. All of our students from Kindergarten through Fifth Grade enjoyed listening to her storytelling and learning about her methods as a writer. Did you know that one of her books took 4 years to complete and went through 76 revisions? Writing takes patience, hard work and a stubborn resolve to see it through. We were so pleased that Mrs. Ketteman was able to visit our school and share her delightful books with us. Thank you to the Lovejoy Elementary PTA and Mrs. Barajas for your generous support and help with making this visit possible.

Lovejoy Elementary fifth graders recently enjoyed exploring changes to the land during a hands-on lab activity. Students built up land masses made of clay and placed gravel sporadically on the land. Once built, they used wind from a straw and water from a spray bottle to see how these agents are part of the weathering and erosion process. What an exciting way to learn about science! |

Lovejoy Elementary students enjoyed a fun filled sing along on Friday, December 19th. The entire school gathered in the gym to sing along to many holiday favorites. Each grade level led us in singing the songs. Our school choir, The Double L Choir, sang some of their favorite songs to us as well. Their selections included Santa's In the House and The Drieidel Song. Even the teachers got to be part of the fun when they played instruments and helped sing our last song, Feliz Navidad. Thank you to Mrs. Wendy Hebert for directing our wonderful choir and making this sing along so much fun! Happy Holidays to everyone! |

Lovejoy Elementary Kindergarten classes have been very busy learning about winter celebrations. Recently they have learned all about Hanukkah, “The Festival of Lights.” They studied about the menorah, played a deride game and cooked up some delicious potato latkes! The students were very interested to see how other cultures celebrate important times of the year.
