Puster 3rd graders mine for resources with raisins PDF Print E-mail

During their study of Natural Resources, 3rd graders at Puster went mining for resources!  Using oatmeal raisin cookies and a toothpick they got right to work! They did their best to mine for the resources they needed, while trying to keep the land close to the way they found it!

The Puster Elementary 2nd graders presented "We Celebrate America" at the January 21st PTA meeting and January 22nd Puster Pride Assembly.  These talented students learned songs that honor the history, land, and people of our country.  Songs included "Yankee Doodle", "This Land is Your Land", "Deep in the Heart of Texas", and "Fifty Nifty".

4th grade at Puster has been learning about soil.  We have discussed and observed different types of soil, which soils retain the most water, and which support plant growth the best. We did some experiments on water retention using soil in panty hose. You can laugh if you want to…the kids did, too. We added 200 ml of water to 150 ml of soil in the panty hose over a graduated cylinder. We then measured how much water flowed through the soil and how much was retained. After we did that, we planted radish seeds in each soil type to check out the plant growth of each. We’re still in the process of observing these…

 

 

 
Puster students build yummy paragraphs PDF Print E-mail

Using the analogy of making a hamburger, third grade students at Puster Elementary School had fun learning how to write an informative paragraph. As students wrote each sentence to “build” their paragraphs, they “built” a model hamburger to match. After the students completed their paragraphs, they got to eat their model. Yum!
 
Puster ES 5th Graders Present Persuasive Ads PDF Print E-mail

Puster fifth grade students presented their persuasive ads trying to convince their audience to move to their colony.  Social Studies and Language Arts skills were practiced including:  persuasion, main idea, adverbs, adjectives, comma usage, settlement patterns, knowing important people in American history and geography. Students chose their own groups, chose their colony and decided what type of person would want to live in their colony (farmers, traders, religious people, hunters, shipbuilders, etc.).  The colony that these boys presented was South Carolina.

So much can be said in a name. In our case, our name says it all. First and foremost, this web site is a labor of love by a group of parents to celebrate the school district that is the heart of our community.

Lovejoy is a community of students, teachers, staff, parents, grandparents and residents of all ages. This is a web site by and for our community. There are so many good things happening in this community on a daily basis that we had to dedicate a whole web site to showcase them.
