Puster spirit was in the air today! We had over 75% of our students showing their leopard pride! Third grade showed the most spirit with 89% of the students showing their spirit. Our Puster Pride assembly was definitely red and spirited today. During Puster Pride we enjoyed a short preview of “Guys and Dolls” performed by SCMS. The students from Sloan Creek did a wonderful job and we enjoyed listening to the performance!
Enjoy your weekend! Let’s all head out for the last regular season football game at LHS tonight! The Gridiron Club is sponsoring the LAST home game tailgating party! There will be FREE hotdogs, chips and drinks from 5 – 6:30pm on Friday – while the food lasts. Everyone should feel free to bring out a dish or their own food if they would like!!
PUSTER ELEMENTARY NEWS
Student Council Food Drive
The 2009-2010 Puster Student Council will be holding the 2nd Annual Food Drive at Puster Elementary beginning November 6th and lasting through November 18th. The theme is "Line a Hall to Stack a Shelf". The students can bring can goods to their homeroom teacher and we will begin lining the cans along the hallways! Join in on this great community service!
Carpool Drop-off
Please remember the east side of the building is for carpool drop-off of students. The front (west side) of the building is for bus drop-off and parents who need to park and come in the building. Thank you for helping with our traffic control and the safety of the children.
From the Counselor
The beautiful weather has made this week fly! That seems to happen every year at this time, doesn't it? Thanks to your generous support, our Caring Coins Day for the Allen Community Outreach Center was a tremendous success. Your children's piggy bank donations totaled $793.01!
Did you happen to see the flier for the Ponytail Club in your child's Thursday folder? This community project was a wonderful opportunity for Puster students to give of themselves to others, and several have requested we grow ponytails again! Anyone can participate - daughters, mothers, aunts, sisters, friends, etc. The only stipulation is that the ponytail be nonbleached and at least 8 inches in length from the base of the neck. We will celebrate with a Ponytail Club Ceremony sometime in May. Feel free to contact me with any questions.
Finally, attached to this message is my six-week newsletter. My new motto is "Going Green and Growing Proud!" Have a wonderful weekend.
GT Referrals
The deadline for GT referrals for the 2nd semester placement is November 13, 2009 at 4:00 pm. Forms are available on the district website under Special Programs, Gifted & Talented. Return referrals to Puster Elementary to the attention of Wendy Craft.
Puster Recycles Week
Next week, Nov. 9-13 is Recycles Week. The Puster Green Team will be collecting gently used coats, jackets, sweaters, and sweatshirts for Allen Community Outreach. LHS is sponsoring an E-Waste Collection on Saturday, November 14, and the Green Team is also selling reusable totes. Please see the attached flyers for more information.
Specific Feedback Forms
Beginning with the next six weeks, students in grades 2-5 will receive the specific feedback forms only with the report cards. The purpose of the written feedback is to give parents specific, targeted information on student progress. Please look for these with each report card at the end of each six weeks.

Parents & the Transition Process
The LISD Special Education Department will host the first, in a series, of trainings for parents of students with a disability. The topic for this training is the Transition Process. Transition includes, but is more than, the movement from campus to campus. Transition is an outcome oriented process to address the student's post secondary needs. Come and learn about the intent of the law and how you can be an effective advocate for your child. The training will be held in the Red Building on November 12 at 1:00 p.m. and then repeated at 7:00 p.m. If you have questions, please contact Amy Burks at 469.742.8062.
Guys and Dolls Performance At SCMS
The performances are Thursday Nov. 12, Friday Nov. 13, & Saturday Nov. 14 at the LHS Auditorium. Tickets are $5 for students/staff and $7 adults. If available, tickets will also be sold at the box office at 6pm on show nights.
Lovejoy Fine Arts Festival
The first Lovejoy Fine Arts Festival will start at noon on Saturday Dec. 12 at Lovejoy High School. Admission is free. The festival will showcase the artistic talents of Lovejoy ISD students in the fine arts departments. Set aside some time on your busy calendars to attend. Come and go as you please. Three stages will host various performances by Lovejoy fine arts students in grades 5-12. Just a sampling of performers are: elementary schools' honor choirs, middle school pop choir, LHS choir, LHS jazz band, The Majestics Dance Team, studio dance classes, orchestra, theater, guitar club performers, ensembles, and student bands. Community art booths, art student booths, and holiday food vendors will also be involved. Plus kids' art stations and a photo opportunity with the big guy in the red suit. Your eyes, ears, and taste buds are in for a treat!
The festival will last from noon to 6 p.m.. But the climatic LHS choir performance will close out the evening after 6 p.m. on the main auditorium stage.
We encourage you to bring at least two canned goods for Allen Community Outreach. Another community event, held at the same time, is the art department's Empty Bowls project. Persons will be able to buy a bowl, hand-made by an art student in grades K-12. The funds from the project will be given to the Samaritan Inn.
Lovejoy Fine Arts Festival is planned by a committee representing the five different LHS fine arts booster clubs: band, orchestra, choir, theater, and Majestics.
