Puster Principal Message

November 13, 2009

Good afternoon! We had a great Recycle Week! Thank you to Janice Haas, Denise Taylor, other parent volunteers and our Green Team for their hard work this week. Thanks to everyone who contributed to the coat drive. The Green Team collected 265 coats, jackets, and sweatshirts for the Allen Community Outreach. Fifth grade won the contest with 70 coats!

The Green Team performed at Puster Pride and helped us celebrate the end of a great week. At the assembly we learned there is a giant trash vortex circulating in the North Pacific that is the size of the state of Texas! I hope the students learned about ways to save our earth this week and remember to REUSE, REDUCE, and RECYCLE! Way to go Green Team!

Student Council Food Drive

The 2009-2010 Puster Student Council will be holding the 2nd Annual Food Drive at Puster Elementary beginning November 6th and lasting through November 18th.  The theme is "Line a Hall to Stack a Shelf". The students can bring can goods to their homeroom teacher and we will begin lining the cans along the hallways!  Join in on this great community service!

New Early Release Times

The early release times for Dec. 18 and June 4 have changed. The students will be released at noon on those two days, as well as on all other early release days. This will provide consistency in our early release dismissal time for elementary campuses. Our parties will be at 11:00 and students will be released at noon for the winter break. Please mark your calendars!

Checking Students Out Early From School

When checking students out early, parents must come to the office and check them out. Please do not go to the classroom and get the child on your own. This is for the safety of the children. We need to know who is taking a child from class and we also want to respect our instructional time. Thank you for your help!

Lovejoy Fine Arts Festival

The first Lovejoy Fine Arts Festival will start at noon on Saturday Dec. 12 at Lovejoy High School. Admission is free. The festival will showcase the artistic talents of Lovejoy ISD students in the fine arts departments.  Set aside some time on your busy calendars to attend.  Come and go as you please. Three stages will host various performances by Lovejoy fine arts students in grades 5-12.  Just a sampling of performers are: elementary schools' honor choirs, middle school pop choir,  LHS choir, LHS jazz band, The Majestics Dance Team, studio dance classes, orchestra, theater, guitar club performers, ensembles, and student bands. Community art booths, art student booths, and holiday food vendors will also be involved. Plus kids' art stations and a photo opportunity  with the big guy in the red suit.  Your eyes, ears, and taste buds are in for a treat!

The festival will last from noon to 6 p.m.. But the climatic LHS choir performance will close out the evening after 6 p.m. on the main auditorium stage.

We encourage you to bring at least two canned goods for Allen Community Outreach. Another community event, held at the same time, is the art department's Empty Bowls project.  Persons will be able to buy a bowl, hand-made by an art student in grades K-12. The funds from the project will be given to the Samaritan Inn.

Lovejoy Fine Arts Festival is planned by a committee representing the five different LHS fine arts booster clubs: band, orchestra, choir, theater, and Majestics.

About This Site

So much can be said in a name. In our case, our name says it all. First and foremost, this web site is a labor of love by a group of parents to celebrate the school district that is the heart of our community.

Lovejoy is a community of students, teachers, staff, parents, grandparents and residents of all ages. This is a web site by and for our community. There are so many good things happening in this community on a daily basis that we had to dedicate a whole web site to showcase them.

We hope this web site will be a source of inspiration, and we invite all of you to share the love that is Lovejoy!
