February was a special month at Puster Elementary. After reading Greg Mortenson’s Listen to the Wind and how he built schools in Pakistan, we learned that Santa Marta Elementary in Costa Rica needed help with basic school supplies, plumbing, and other educational needs. We realized we had a perfect opportunity to help make a difference in this world, just like Greg Mortenson! We started collecting coins – Caring Coins for Costa Rica. Students brought money from piggy banks, allowances, lemonade stand profits, even lost change under sofas and car mats! Penny by penny, dollar by dollar, our container filled. With help from private donations and Puster’s Student Council, our total reached $3,416.83!

Puster Pride on February 26th was a special day. Thanks to Skype, the student body was able to say hello and present our caring coins. We have helped Santa Marta Elementary, and they have helped us learn about fairness and sharing.

Puster and Santa Marta – the beginning of a wonderful friendship!
