Hannah Hansen, a 4th grader in Mrs. May's class at Puster Elementary, earned a Second Place ribbon at the 2009 State Fair of Texas.    Hannah's entry, titled "All Aboard", demonstrated the use of quilling and supported this year's State Fair theme of "All Aboard for Food and Fun."   Hannah learned to quill this past summer when she worked on art projects with Mrs. McLaughlin, a 1st grade teacher at Lovejoy Elementary.

Quilling is an art form that involves the use of strips of paper that are rolled, shaped, and glued together to create decorative designs. The paper is wound around a quill to create a basic coil shape. The paper is then glued at the tip and the coil shaped.  These shaped coils are arranged to form flowers, leaves, and various ornamental patterns similar to ironwork.

Hannah was happily surprised when she was called to the stage during a recent Puster Pride assembly, where she was recognized for her achievement.  She is pictured here in front of her framed quilled piece at the State Fair on October 4.
