The successes of our students at the UIL competition fills me with pride and joy for them and our middle school program! Our students epitomized "The Lovejoy Way" throughout these competitions. The teamwork among our UIL coaches and parent volunteers provided an invaluable foundation upon which our students built their success. This was my first year as UIL Coordinator, and I must say that I am humbled by the efforts of all involved and by the performance of our kids. In this effort, thanks to Carrie Alexander and her lunchroom staff for facilitating our UIL students' lunches before leaving for the competition. Also, thanks to Mrs. Love and Mrs. Anderson's 7th/8th period English classes for assembling the goodie bags given to each contestant. We appreciate our fabulous bus drivers who went out of their way to adjust their schedule to accommodate taking us to and retrieving us from the competition. Finally, thanks to Mr. Goodrich, Ms. Fleming, Ms. White, and the rest of the Sloan Creek staff who assisted for their support and assistance while we met the challenges of organizing and preparing this event. Go Leopards!
Princeton hosted this competition in a very hospitable and organized manner. They are to be commended for their efforts! We competed against: Princeton, Farmersville, Community, Rains, and Quinlan. While there are areas for improvement, overall all six schools interacted beautifully in the true spirit of this academic contest. Our students placed (1st - 6th) in all but three of the competitions they entered.
All our students seemed to really enjoy themselves, even those who went as alternates and didn't even get to compete. Melody Herring (Assistant Principal), the coaches who attended, and the parent volunteers were amazing (Pam Comerford, Curtis Libey, Mrs. Minissale, Mrs. Hopkinson, Mr. Pezzulli, and Mrs. Weyand). They escorted students to events, graded competitions, handed out goodie bags, and answered student questions. Everyone knew what was going on at all times, so the stress level was very low, even though the environment is loud, energetic, and fast-paced.
