Decorated Army Ranger Keni Thomas spoke to students at Sloan Creek Middle School during an assembly the first day of school, August 24.   Thomas led a small team of soldiers in Mogadishu, Somalia in the battle of Mogadishu (made famous by the movie and book “Blackhawk Down”.)

His experience as a sergeant leading his group safely out of the battle line when one of their Black Hawk helicopters went down, showed how preparation and effort can help individuals succeed even amidst the greatest crisis.  He shared his message in an appropriate middle school-age manner.

The event was also made possible with the support of the SCMS PTA.
