In the Champion Section (ratings over 900) of the Middle School Division, we had a team of 2 players:  

Hunter Smith, 7th grade
Jacob Dobson, 7th grade

Being only a two member team competing with 108 participants and 23 teams, they were unable to win a rank of large significance.  But they should be recognized for their efforts!

In the JV Section (ratings from 600 - 900) of the Middle School Division, we had a team of 4 players:

Connor Costello, 8th grade: Individually ranked 34th out of 76 participants earning the "4 individual points" Trophy
Andrew Keefer, 6th grade: Tied 7th with tie break Trophy for 13th Place out of 76 participants!
Hunter Jackson, 7th grade
Heidi Zettl, 6th grade

This team is ranked 4th in the state of Texas out of 12 teams and received their 4th Place Trophy!

In the Novice Section (ratings under 600) of the Middle School Division, we had a team of 7 players (only the top four scores were tallied):

Stewart Cannon, 6th grade: Individual Trophy for 18th Place out of 57 participants!
Jared Cooper, 6th grade:  Individual Trophy for 19th Place out of 57 participants!
Elizabeth Hannah, 6th grade
Hunter Joiner, 6th grade: Individual Trophy for 16th Place out of 57 participants!
Kerry Joiner, 6th grade
Autumn Keefer, 8th grade: Tied 3rd Place with a tie break Trophy for 6th Place!
Ixchel Yundt-Pacheco, 6th grade

This team is rank 1st in the state of Texas out of 11 teams and received their 1st Place Trophy! (photo attached)

Don't kid yourself . . .these kids spent 2 days (leaving at 7:30 am and not getting home until after 8:00 pm) working and practicing and competing in chess!  We took some hard blows and suffered some drastic losses, but we also hung in there and conquered a few magnificent games!  We definitely earned our titles!

The Sloan Creek Chess Club, ranked #1 in the state of TEXAS, is dedicated to the service of positively promoting enriching chess to our Sloan Creek Middle School students.  These kids worked hard in preparation for these Texas State titles and had grueling competition both days while embracing the passion of chess.  We are very proud of their efforts and their dedication!  They set a tone and pathway for Lovejoy I. S. D.

About This Site

So much can be said in a name. In our case, our name says it all. First and foremost, this web site is a labor of love by a group of parents to celebrate the school district that is the heart of our community.

Lovejoy is a community of students, teachers, staff, parents, grandparents and residents of all ages. This is a web site by and for our community. There are so many good things happening in this community on a daily basis that we had to dedicate a whole web site to showcase them.

We hope this web site will be a source of inspiration, and we invite all of you to share the love that is Lovejoy!
