The Lovejoy Lady Leopards Softball team have improved to 28-3-1 and won the Area Championship over New Boston.  The 3-games series was very exciting with Lovejoy with Lovejoy winning the final game of the series 1-0.   In the initial game, the Lady Leopards jumped on New Boston early, but New Boston came back to tie the game in the 5th inning 5-5.   The Lady Leopards scored 1 in the 6th and held on to the victory - 6-5.   Melissa Schreck was 4-4 with 3 RBIs.  Third baseman Jessica Green made 10 strong plays at 3rd base to help secure the win.  For the 2nd and 3rd game, Lovejoy faced a tough New Boston pitcher.  In the first game, they could only manage 1 run and lost the game to New Boston 1-3 which forced a 3rd game.  In the 3rd game, Melissa Schreck took the mound and kept the strong hitting New Boston team to 3 hits and pitched a shutout.  The Lady Leopards scored 1 run to secure the victory

The Lady Leopards face Nevada Community this Friday (May 14) at 7:00 at Richardson Berkner HS in a one-game series for the Regional Quarter finals. There is no cost to come watch the game. The winner of this game will play the winner of the Celina-Argyle game in the Regional Semi-finals.

The Lady Leopards are currently ranked #3 in 3A State Rankings; #19 in ESPN RISE for Texas; and #6 in the Dallas-Ft Worth Morning News area rankings for 3A and 4A schools (top ranked 3A school in the DFW area). The Lady Leopards are a well balanced team with the team batting average over 319% as a team with four players batting over 390% for the season. The team is led by Senior Beth Johnson who is batting 531%, and Freshman Brittany Lewis who is batting 529%. The pitching staff is very strong and is led by Senior Jordan Stafford (10-0). Jordan, who missed all but 2 of the 10 district games due to an ankle injury, has over 102 strikeouts for the season. Junior Melissa Schreck (6-1) is averaging 8.25 strikeouts per game, has pitched a perfect game and pitched two no-hitters this season. The team pitching ERA is 0.98 with a total of 254 strikeouts for the season. Freshman Brittany Lewis leads the pitching staff with a 0.60 ERA.
