Red Team: Allen Curtis 22, Lovejoy 24 Overall Standings 2 - 2
Black Team: Allen Curtis 35, Lovejoy 34 Overall Standings 0 - 4
For the Red Team, battling in the wet trenches by the offensive and defensive lines gives the Red Team a narrow victory. The Black Team saw an impressive offensive charge in the first half fizzle as an impressive Curtis team battled back in the fourth quarter to steal a victory as game is called by Officials.

RED TEAM
The rain and lightning held off for the 8th Grade Sloan Creek Leopards Red Team’s battle against the Allen Curtis Cougars Red Team. The Leopard defense started the first half out great, as it stopped a 12 play Cougar drive and gave the ball to the Leopard offense in good field position. The defensive stand was highlighted by a blocked pass by Jeremy Drum and tackles by Sam Victor, Alex Hamilton, Cooper Smith, Clayton Merrill, Daniel Strickland, Alex Hopkinson, Connor Costello, and Grant Fate. The Leopard offense lead by Bryce Lusby drove the ball down the field with runs by Alex Hamilton, Patrick Welsh and Bryce Lusby and a pass reception by Welsh, but Grant Fate had to punt the ball over to the Cougars. Even with the defensive tackling of Brennan Ballew, Blake Larsen, Victor, Merrill, and Drum the Cougars were able to score with about 5 minutes left in the half. After the Cougars recovered an onside kick the Leopard defense went back to work, forced a Cougar fumble that was recovered by Turner Vesley. The Leopard offense capitalized on the turnover and Hamilton ran 1 yard for a touchdown following a 31 pass reception from Lusby to Victor. The Leopard defense ended a 14 play drive with great pass defense by Nick Tarango and Welsh. Tyler Gordon, Hamilton, Merrill, Tarango, and Strickland provided some good tackles on the drive. With less than a minute on the clock the Cougars were able to score after a fumble recovery deep in Leopard territory. The score at the end of the half …Curtis 15 – Sloan Creek 6.
The Leopard offense started out the half with Fate as quarterback who led a 7 play offensive drive with contributions by a Victor who had a 15 yard reception, Fate who had a 10 yard run and Hamilton who closed out the drive with 2 carries that took him into the end zone for a touchdown. The Leopard defense held against Cougar offense with tackles by Blake Parker, Hamilton, Welsh, Larsen, Merrill and Drum. When the Leopard offense got the ball back Lusby went to the air to move the ball 79 yards down field with passes to Hamilton, Drum and Welsh. The drive was topped off with a run by Hamilton behind the offensive line for a touchdown. The Cougars were able to mount an offensive drive that ended in a touchdown despite defensive tackling by Larsen, Lusby, Strickland, Drum, and Victor. With 4 minutes left in the half Fate took over the Leopard offense and with some great running by Hamilton, Lusby and Welsh, Cody McLemore was able rush the last 9 yards for a touchdown. McLemore also help keep the Cougars deep in their own territory with some great kick offs throughout the entire game. With about 2 minutes left in the game and the score Curtis 22 – Sloan Creek 24 the Leopard defense needed a big stop. The defensive was up to the task. The defensive line held and tackles by Tim Rekieta, Drum, Merrill and Strickland helped kept the Cougars from gaining big yardage and Tarango knocked down a Cougar pass to end the game. BLACK TEAM
The 8th grade Sloan Creek Leopard Black Team had to wait about 15 minutes for the lightning to clear the area before they were able to take on the Allen Curtis Cougar Black Team. Once the game got started the Leopard defense put a halt to a Cougar 14 play drive with tackles by Steven Larsen, Chochy Luce, Grant Jarvis, John Embry, Dalton Simmons, Mick Ellis, Nick Larsen, Daniel Sefcik and Justin Dunagan. The Cougars did end the drive with a field goal. The Leopard offense started out the night with Luce leading a 9 play drive where he connected with Carter Daily, Nick Larsen, Daniel Sefcik and Steven Larsen for a total of 81 yards which ended in an 18 yard touchdown catch by Steven Larsen. After a booming kick by Ellis the Leopard defense stuffed the Cougar offense. Brad Jacobs, Travis Burger, and Luce provided the tackling and Jarvis broke up a pass that forced the Cougars to punt. The defensive line pushed and Jacobs blocked the Cougar punt and Nick Larsen recovered the loose ball in the end zone for a touchdown. The Leopard defense was though for the rest of the first half holding the Cougar offense to 6 yards in two possessions. The Leopard offense scored two more times in the second half once on a reverse from Luce to Ellis to Sefcik for a 70 yard touchdown run and once on a 75 yard pass and run from Luce to Steven Larsen for a touchdown. The score at the half was Curtis 3- Sloan Creek 28.
The second half started with a four and out for the Leopards. The Cougars were able to mount a scoring drive despite good defensive play by Mason Olk, Mike Leirer, Simmons, Jacobs, Daily, Ellis, and Jarvis. The Leopard offense responded with a two play drive that ended when Steven Larsen caught a Luce pass and sprinted 72 yards to the end zone bringing the score to Cougars 11 – Leopards 34. From that point on the Cougars pushed and scored 24 unanswered points bringing the score to Curtis 35 – Sloan Creek 34. With almost 5 minutes on the clock the Leopards started their offensive drive with a pass to Nick Larsen who tossed the ball to Sefcik for a 20 yard gain. The game was called at 10:00 with 4 minutes on the clock with Allen Curtis leading the Lovejoy Sloan Creek 35-34.
