Red Team Drops Curtis

SCMSGame7Playing in windy Allen Stadium, the 7th Grade Red Team defeated Curtis 21 -8. The Cougars received the kickoff and marched down the field and scored in spite of great plays on defense by Sam Victor and Alexander Hopkinson. The PAT was good giving Curtis an 8-0 lead. Nick Torango had a nice kickoff return to the Sloan Creek 33 to set the offense up. Grant Fate completed passes to Hopkinson and Turner but ultimately the drive sputtered and the ball was turned over to Curtis on downs. Avery Linderman and Brad Trimper forced a punt however the punt was recovered by Curtis. The defense remained stiff and forced another punt and Ben Krumrei sacked the punter giving the Leopards the ball on the 34 yard line. Linderman took a quick handoff from Fate and raced for a touchdown. He followed that up with another handoff on the extra point to close the score to 8-7. Cody McLemore had a terrific kick to the 10 yard line. Clayton Merrill and Krumrei provided the stops on defense forcing another Curtis punt. A bad snap resulted in a safety and a Leopard lead of 9-8. Torango had a good return to the 43 yard line to set the offense up. Sloan Creek used three straight running plays for first downs, the first by Carter Benno and the next two by Linderman. With Fate at the controls he found Sam Victor for a 30 yard gain to the five yard line. That was followed up by tremendously executed option play by Fate as he pitched the ball to Linderman on the right side at the last moment. Another great kickoff to the eight yard line was met with a great return by Curtis for 53 yards. Trimper, Turner Vessley and Clayton Merrill stopped the Cougar drive as time expired.

After receiving the kickoff the Leopard drive looked to be stopped as they faced a 3rd and 20. However, a beautiful pass by Fate to Sam Victor resulted in a 60 yard Leopard TD. The pass was thrown 43 yards and then Victor galloped in for the score. The extra point attempt was unsuccessful. Kaden Vannorsdel, McLemore and Merrill stopped the Curtis drive on downs. Sloan Creek then went four and out. Carter Benno (pictured above) then picked off a Curtis pass and returned it to the 16 yard line. The Leopards ended up turning the ball over to Curtis again and they marched down the field but Krumrei and Trimper who both had monster games on defense kept them out of the end zone. Fate went 5 for 8 and 100 yards. Final score 21 - 8.   Great job Leopards!

Black Team Rallies for a Tie

With the temperatures feeling a little more like football weather the Sloan Creek Leopards Black Team met the Allen Curtis Cougars at the Allen High School Stadium Tuesday night.  This was a tough battle for both sides all night long.  The Cougars started the night on their 20 yard line after a touchback following a 60 yard Mick Ellis kick.  Quarterback, Bryce Lusby led the Leopard offense in the first half.  The Leopard offense was able to move the ball a little in the first half with 12 yards rushing and 30 yards passing against the swarming Cougar defense.  Most of the yards on the ground were gained by Daniel Sefick, Mick Ellis and Travis Burger.  Pass receptions by Sefick, Chachie Luce and Grant Jarvis rounded out the offense. Carter Daly was able to break up a Cougar pass for a potential long gain in the first half as well as some great tackling by Alex Hamilton, Patrick Welsh, John Embry, Steven Larsen, Mason Olk, Daron McFarling, Jarvis, Luce, Ellis and Sefick helped hold the Cougars offense.   However, during the first half the Cougars were able to score two touchdowns and put 12 points on the board.

Lusby leading the Leopards offense found some success in the air in the second half with 144 yards in pass receptions and 11 yards rushing.  The first Leopard touchdown came early in the second half as Lusby connected with Luce on a 72 yard pass reception.  Luce also scored a second touchdown in the fourth quarter with a flea-flicker as Lusby handed the ball to Ellis who threw a 32 yard pass to Luce. Sefick and Jarvis also contributed in the second half with pass receptions from Lusby.   Gang tackling and some great solo tackles from the Leopard defense stopped the Cougar offence from scoring in the second half.  Sefick, Welsh, Daly, Hamilton, Ellis, S. Larsen, Luce, and Ben Minissale made their mark on the Cougar's rushers and pass receivers.  In the end the Leopards moved their record to 4-2-1 with the game ending in a tie. Lovejoy 12 - Allen 12.
