Good morning, Lovejoy Families,

Today is our last round of the state mandated test, the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills Test (TAKS) for the 2009-2010 school year.  Our 5th graders are taking the science portion of the test.  Both today and tomorrow are used as make up days in grades 3 and 4 as well as for those allowed extended time to test.  Results of the students’ performance should arrive before the end of the school year and will be included in your child’s final report card.

Sue Shaffer Memorial Field Day – A Day for Shel Silverstein

Our kindergarten, first, and second graders will make their way to the Lovejoy High School Track Stadium for Sue Shaffer Memorial Field Day one week from today from 9:00 – 2:00.  Their theme is “A Day with Shel Silverstein.” Students will enjoy their sack lunch at 11:00 followed by the annual teacher versus parents’ tug of war.  Activities will resume at 12:00 with Dr. Guess dancing away diabetes and a special life size message across the field for diabetes awareness.  Be sure you check your child’s Thursday Folder for more information.  Field Day for grades three, four, and five is scheduled for Thursday the 13th of May.  A reminder that volunteers must have completed the criminal background check and be on our volunteer list.  There is a sign-up sheet at the main gate.

New Social Skill “Reporting Other’s Behavior”

For the next two weeks, students will practice “Reporting Other’s Behavior.”

When reporting other’s behavior, you:

  1. Look at the teacher or adult.
  2. Use a calm voice.  Ask to talk to him or her privately.
  3. Describe the inappropriate behavior you are reporting.
  4. Explain why you are making the report.
  5. Answer any questions the adult has.
  6. Thank the adult for listening.
