It sounds as if rain is in the forecast beginning late tonight and into tomorrow. It looks as if we’ll be pulling out our umbrellas again for much needed rain. The weekend is looking promising. I hope you all have big plans!
Jersey Day
A reminder that our Student Council has designated tomorrow as Jersey Day. I’m already checking Pinterest for new and different snack foods for Super Bowl Sunday. I am embarrassed to admit that I look forward to the food and commercials more than the game itself!
Smalentine Grams – STUCO
Our Student Council is sponsoring a fundraiser by selling Smalentine grams this next week. Students will be selling candy grams for 50 cents and will be sold during your child’s lunch time. All candy grams will be delivered on Tuesday February 14th to homeroom classes.
Lovejoy Night Allen American Hockey Game
This Saturday evening is Lovejoy Elementary Night at The Allen Americans Hockey game. Gates open at 6:05p.m. with the game beginning at 7:05. Our PTA will receive $2 per ticket purchased by our Lovejoy families. Be sure to check the Thursday folder for a flyer with more information.
Reflections Recognition
Our annual recognition of those students advancing in the Reflections Contest, will be Tuesday, February 7th from 7:30p.m. to 8:30p.m. in the Lovejoy High School Auditorium. Congratulations go out to Sylvia Hansen, Erin Flessner, Alexis Dubree, Avery Fuller, and Cambry Patrick.
UIL Information
We are excited to announce that we will be participating in the University Scholastic League (UIL) Competition again this year. The event will be held in May but at this time we need your children, in grades 2 through 5, to let us know if they are interested in trying out for competitions held within their grade level. Also, we are piloting an event this year that involves children solving chess puzzles. If you’d be interested in serving as a coach, please let me know. Be sure to check your child’s Thursday Folder for more information and for the form to complete, letting us know if your child would like to be included in try outs.
Mother and Son – Daddy and Daughter Events
Lovejoy Elementary PTA is hosting two wonderful events in February. First, the Mother/Son Social is Friday the 10th at 6:30-8:30 pm. We will have many fun games, contests, a DJ, snacks, door prizes, and more.
(It’s a Rock & Roll Theme)
The PTA will also host the Daddy/Daughter dance on Saturday the 11th from 6:30-8:30 pm. We’ll have dancing, crafts, snacks, contests, DJ, and more.
It’s not too late to get tickets as they will be sold @ the door for only $10 per family.
Rising 6th Grade Meetings
The children were certainly excited when returning to school, this past Friday. I heard many discussing their electives during lunch. What fun! A reminder of other important dates:

Accepting Compliments
For the next two weeks, our children will be practicing accepting compliments. To properly accept a compliment, one:
1. Look at the person.
2. Use a pleasant voice.
3. Say “Thank you.”
4. Don’t look away, mumble, or deny the compliment.
5. Do not disagree with the compliment.

Texas PTA Honorary Life Membership
Each year the Lovejoy PTA recognizes two special individuals who promote and contribute to the welfare of children and youth. Do you know someone who should receive this award? If so, be sure to check your child’s Thursday Folders for the form to complete and return to our PTA, nominating that person for a Texas Life Membership.
Valentine’s Parties
We will have our Valentine’s parties on Tuesday, February 14th. Our kindergarten party will be after their specials at 9:45. This will allow parents to set up classrooms while the children are out of the room, and will permit those having older children to attend parties at 2:00 for grades 1 to 5.
Spring Family Fun Night

. Practices will start in February on Wednesday evenings for the first few weeks, then change to another night (TBD). All practices are at Lovejoy and will be about an hour in length.
Dr. Ray Levy – Motivating Your Child/Adolescent Series, Feb. 1, 8, 15, and 22
Dr. Ray Levy will be providing sessions on how to work with your children in their every day problems and how to overcome obstacles. There are four consecutive Wednesdays, where Dr. Levy will show you how to motivate your child/adolescent and restore peace in your home. Dr. Levy uses humor, demonstration and video to teach his techniques of applying this respectful yet persistent approach to creating change with children and adolescents.

LISD Board Academy This Saturday
There will be a one day academy for all residents who would like to learn more about the operations of the school district including budgeting, student achievement, and board governance. This session is being offered on Saturday, February 4th from 8:00 am until 12:00 noon in the LISD Administration Building.
