First Day Edition

August 24, 2009

Dear Lovejoy Community:

Thank you for the opportunity to serve this community as your superintendent. As I move into my fifth start of the school year in Lovejoy, I am continually reminded of the many assets available to us to offer a top notch education for each child.

The 2009-2010 school year is very significant even for a school district that first opened its doors for students in 1917. This year we will graduate our first seniors from Lovejoy High School. At LHS this morning, all students assembled in the courtyard and honored the Class of 2010 as they made their Senior Walk into the building. photo at Senior Walk. The Dallas Morning News ran a story today about our first graduating class and the role they have played to develop a new high school.

The first day of school is always a little hectic as we are establishing new routines which translate into longer than usual carpool lines and wait time. You all exhibited an exemplary level of patience this morning—thank you very much. Your children walked into our buildings ready for business which is a tribute to the preparation you did with them to transition from summer to the school environment. Most of all, our staff did an incredible job to have our classrooms ready for the arrival of your children. We are all very lucky to be in Lovejoy ISD.

From my vantage point, this morning was a good start. As we all know, good can be the enemy of great and we remain focused on establishing the best possible school experience including the first day experience. I am a firm believer in the principle of “the buck must stop on my desk”. Therefore, if you have an observation or some coaching on actions we could take to improve the start of the school year, please send me an email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. As always, we respect your honest and direct feedback and we understand we can continue to do a better job if we know the areas where we have missed the bull’s eye.  As of this afternoon, we have 3,187 Lovejoy students in attendance. Thanks again for sending us such incredible kids.

Respectfully,

Ted Moore

Superintendent

Lovejoy ISD

About This Site

So much can be said in a name. In our case, our name says it all. First and foremost, this web site is a labor of love by a group of parents to celebrate the school district that is the heart of our community.

Lovejoy is a community of students, teachers, staff, parents, grandparents and residents of all ages. This is a web site by and for our community. There are so many good things happening in this community on a daily basis that we had to dedicate a whole web site to showcase them.

We hope this web site will be a source of inspiration, and we invite all of you to share the love that is Lovejoy!
