Developing Excellence
I enjoy watching district programs grow into a maturity that provides strong experiences for all children. At the school board workshop last night, Dennis Muizers gave a report on the indicators of academic excellence in the district. At the board meeting, we recognized the athletes from both boys’ and girls’ cross country who had earned a second place finish in last week’s state meet. Our middle school theatre department did a production of “Guys and Dolls” and it was one of the best middle school performances that I have seen in my 30+ year career. I would be remiss if I failed to mention the growth of the LHS Swimming program. During the fall campaign, the LHS swimmers have:
- At the Frisco Spring Invitational against many of the top programs in the metroplex participating and our girls team placed 9th and the boys 10th.
- Lovejoy competed in diving competition for the first time
- Last Thursday the lady swimmers had a dual meet with McKinney North—our girls took second
- On Friday, the Leopards competed in the Dallas Cup earning a second place finish. This is notable considering the large schools entered in the contest (Allen, Plano West, Jesuit, etc)
These athletes and their coach, Greg Fisher, are to be commended for their hard work that they are investing in developing the program.
All That Jazz
If you are looking for some quality entertainment on Saturday, I would like to recommend the All Region 25 Jazz Concert. It will be held at 3 pm at the Wylie High School. LHS students, Trey Anderson and Bryan Kaylor, will be performing with this select group.
Kare-n for Cancer—“Decking the Halls with Hope”
You may remember from last year the story that I shared about a resident in the Lovejoy Community, Karen Shackelford, who had created a project to provide Christmas trees and decorations for families undergoing treatment for cancer. Karen and friends are back again with this community service project, now aptly named Kare-n for Cancer, “Decking the Halls with Hope.” Karen, a breast cancer survivor, came up with the idea for this project while undergoing chemo during the holiday season. If you have a group that would like to participate in this project, please sign up on the website, www.mysignup.com/kare-nforcancer
Your group will supply the artificial tree, the lights, ornaments, extension cords, tree skirt, topper, and other special things to make it beautiful and special. The donations will be dropped off during the week of November 30-December 4th. Your group leader will be contacted with all of the specific details once you have signed up on the website.
As a reminder, all district offices will be closed during the week of November 23. We will be ready to welcome your children back to school on November 30. Please accept my wishes for a wonderful Thanksgiving week.
Respectfully,
Ted Moore
Superintendent
