Dear Lovejoy Community,

This is the weekend that the HEB Excellence in Education Awards were announced. We brought two "championships" home. Kathryn Pabst, LHS English III teacher, won the Excellence in Education Secondary Teacher Award for teachers with less than 7 years of teaching experience. In addition to her classroom visit and her written application, she had to go before a panel of judges and she was selected as the state winner.

The Excellence in Education Award program also recognizes a district winner. Lovejoy ISD was entered in the small district category (1A, 2A, and 3A districts). In addition to our written application, the HEB team of judges spent a full day in our schools in late March. The panel of judges was comprised of university professors and directors of statewide education associations such as Texas Business Education Coalition. Out of 70 school districts in the small school category, Lovejoy ISD was chosen as the best district in the State of Texas. The judges’ panel in their review wrote: “After 9 years of the Excellence in Education Awards, Lovejoy ISD is simply the best school district that we have ever visited." Lovejoy ISD received a check for $50,000 to be used for our school programs. In my remarks at the ceremony, I told the audience that Lovejoy won because we have a great community and board of trustees that continually supports a very talented teaching force. As I like to say, teaching is the most important profession in the world.

I appreciate the opportunity to serve the Lovejoy ISD as the superintendent.

I am so proud of Kathryn Pabst who is such a class act. She represented our Lovejoy teachers in exemplary fashion, but her humble remarks at the award ceremony represented the teaching profession with honor.

Respectfully,

Ted Moore

Superintendent
