Thanksgiving Edition
November 25, 2009
Good Morning, Lovejoy. It is a beautiful Wednesday morning and tomorrow is Thanksgiving Day. We are hosting most of our tribe at our house tomorrow which means that I have a wife with a very giving heart. As many of you know, we live in a house built around 1885 and it was the home of my grandparents. As such, we get the pleasure of hosting most family events as our home feels like “coming home” to my brothers, sister, and their families.
I am also reminded of those things for which I am thankful in my professional life. I feel blessed to serve as the superintendent for a school community that values quality and excellence. I appreciate that many of you take the opportunity to dialogue with me and the rest of our leadership team about what you want for the school experience for your sons and daughters. There are many programs that make up a public school district and I often get asked what I see as the most important thing we do as educators. I have given the same answer for most of my 30+ year career—I value kids and excellence. To that end, I believe that every thing we do from academics to extracurricular activities is the most important thing. Indeed, we can never know which student experience will be the one that will ignite the passion of an individual child to excel beyond everyone’s brightest hope. Therefore, a school system that is focused on each child must build excellence throughout the system. Our development is a continuum and we are closer to the summit in some areas than others, but on this Thanksgiving eve, I renew my promise to you that we will leave no stone unturned as we focus on continuous improvement for each and everything we do for each child in this school district. Thanks for your continued partnership in this endeavor.
